Wireless Troubleshooting
Find the cause of Cisco and Meraki wireless problems through client, radio and network evidence, rather than treating every complaint as poor signal.

response time
Average response is not a resolution time or a contractual guarantee. Support scope and response commitments are agreed for each engagement.
Wireless troubleshooting starts by identifying which part of the connection is failing, rather than assuming every complaint about Wi-Fi is a radio problem. MCI Network Services investigates Cisco and Meraki wireless faults across association, authentication, addressing, roaming and the application path. We collect evidence around the affected users and times, then make controlled changes that address the demonstrated cause without disrupting services that are already working.
Coverage and capacity
Design Wi-Fi around the spaces, devices and traffic that depend on it.
Secure access
Align authentication, segmentation and guest access with the wider network.
Measured performance
Validate roaming, interference and user experience instead of relying on signal bars.
Turn the complaint into a testable incident
The description ‘the Wi-Fi is slow’ can cover several different failures. We establish what the user was doing, where the device was located, when the problem occurred and whether other users were affected. The investigation records the client, wireless service and access point where these can be identified reliably. That context makes subsequent logs and measurements much more useful.
We also agree the business priority and the limits of the engagement. An active site outage needs different coordination from an intermittent issue that appears once a week. We define who can authorise changes, who owns the application and which other suppliers may need to participate. The objective is to avoid a technically detailed investigation that never addresses the actual impact or lacks permission to test its proposed remedy.

Locate the failing stage of the connection
We separate discovery and association from authentication, address assignment and application access. A client can be connected to an access point but still unable to obtain an address or reach the intended DNS service. Conversely, an application failure can occur while the wireless connection itself remains healthy. Each stage is checked against the expected configuration and available evidence.
The investigation follows the actual forwarding model. Locally switched, controller-tunnelled and gateway-terminated services have different places to inspect. We compare controller or dashboard observations with endpoint, switch and identity evidence rather than assuming one management screen provides the whole answer. This helps identify the responsible boundary and avoids changes to radio settings when the demonstrated failure lies in an upstream policy or service.
A useful starting point
Not sure where to start?
Bring the requirement. We will help you define the engineering work.
Examine radio conditions in context
Where the evidence points to RF behaviour, we review coverage, interference, channel use and client distribution at the relevant location and time. A quiet survey performed after the problem has disappeared may not represent the conditions that caused it. We therefore look for patterns and, where appropriate, arrange observation during the affected working period.
Signal strength alone is not a complete measure of service quality. Airtime contention, retries, client capability and the return path all matter. We distinguish a poorly placed access point from a congested channel or an endpoint that remains associated with a distant radio. The Wi-Fi interference investigation provides a focused service when environmental conditions are the principal concern.

Data centre networks ↗Use targeted diagnostics with appropriate care
Packet captures and detailed traces can reveal faults that summary counters cannot explain. Their use is planned around a specific question, with the collection point, duration and affected client identified. We check platform and release guidance before enabling diagnostics because some tools can have operational limits or service impact. Capturing everything indefinitely is neither a useful investigation method nor a sensible information-handling practice.
Diagnostic data is treated as potentially sensitive. Access, transfer and retention are agreed, and vendor escalations receive only the evidence needed for the case. The analysis distinguishes observed events from inferred causes. A missing packet in one capture can reflect the capture method rather than network loss, so conclusions are tested against the collection point and supporting evidence before they become recommendations.
Make one justified change at a time
Once there is a credible explanation, we prepare the smallest appropriate corrective action and a verification test. Where practical, changes are isolated so their effect can be observed. Restarting several devices, changing radio policy and updating clients simultaneously may restore service temporarily while leaving the cause unknown and making recurrence harder to investigate.
The test checks the original user workflow and relevant neighbouring services. A correction should not simply move the problem to another client group or weaken access controls. Rollback criteria and the observation period are agreed with the customer. If the fault cannot be reproduced, the report states that limitation and defines what evidence should be collected at the next occurrence rather than claiming a confirmed resolution without support.
Leave an explanation the operations team can use
The outcome includes the incident timeline, evidence, changes and remaining actions. We distinguish a verified cause, a likely cause and an unresolved hypothesis. That distinction helps the customer decide whether to close the incident, continue monitoring or commission a wider design improvement. It also gives other teams a clear basis for their own work.
MCI provides Cisco and Meraki network services throughout the UK, with remote investigation and on-site work scoped to the problem. Share the affected locations, client types and examples of failure times. We can define an evidence-led investigation or a focused wireless packet capture analysis engagement, without promising that every wireless complaint has the same cause or can be solved by replacing access points.
