WAN and cloud connectivity connects the places where your business works with the applications and external services it depends on. MCI designs and supports the Cisco and Meraki network paths between offices, data centres, cloud environments and partner organisations. The goal is a connection that can be explained, tested and operated, not simply another circuit or tunnel added to the estate.

A useful design starts with the application journey. Where the service runs, who controls each network boundary and what must happen during a failure all influence the right approach. The same technology will not necessarily suit every site or external connection.

01

The whole path

Understand how sites, providers, cloud networks and security controls fit together.

02

Resilience that can be tested

Separate a second circuit from genuine end-to-end service resilience.

03

Provider coordination

Keep addressing, routing and escalation ownership clear across organisations.

Choose SD-WAN around the operating requirement

Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN and Meraki SD-WAN provide different options for a distributed network. We assess the supported capabilities, management model and existing environment before recommending either route.

The design should identify the applications and traffic classes that matter, the available transports and the intended behaviour when conditions change. It also needs to be practical for the team that will maintain it.

SD-WAN does not remove every dependency on the underlying circuits. Capacity, provider faults and local connectivity still need clear ownership and an escalation arrangement that reflects the complete service.

Keep the internet edge understandable

Internet edge networking considers the boundary between your organisation and external connectivity. Addressing, routing, security controls and resilience need to be coordinated rather than purchased or changed independently.

Where several providers or public routing relationships are involved, the policies should make the intended behaviour explicit. A second circuit is not automatically useful resilience if it shares a critical dependency or cannot carry the required service after a failure.

We can review the current arrangement or plan a change around the applications that use it. The result should identify both normal traffic paths and the recovery paths the business expects to rely on.

Connect cloud environments without losing ownership

Cloud network connectivity focuses on the paths into and between your cloud environments. The network design needs to account for cloud-side routing, security boundaries and the responsibilities retained by your organisation.

This is not a promise to manage every application or cloud service. The engagement identifies where network engineering ends and where another platform or application team remains responsible.

Changes to a cloud network can affect more than the workload that prompted them. We review shared routes and connected environments so the proposed improvement does not create an unexpected path or disrupt another service.

Give financial-market connections the attention they need

Private network interconnects serve organisations that need controlled connections to partners, clients or specialist services. Those handoffs require clear addressing, route ownership and coordination across the organisations involved.

For finance clients, financial-market connectivity brings that discipline to market-data and trading-related network dependencies. Our engineers work with CME and ICE on a daily basis on behalf of clients using their market-data services.

The client-side network and provider relationship must remain clearly distinguished. We do not imply that MCI owns those market-data services, grants data entitlements or guarantees the performance of a provider’s network.

Validate resilience and performance separately

WAN resilience asks what happens when part of the connection fails. WAN performance asks whether the path supports the application effectively under relevant operating conditions.

Those questions overlap but are not identical. A network can perform well in normal use while recovering poorly, or have a sensible recovery design while a particular application remains slow.

We agree evidence and acceptance criteria for the actual concern. A single speed test or a successful ping should not be treated as proof of every performance and availability requirement across a distributed business.

WAN and cloud questions

Do you also supply the internet circuit?

Circuit provision and network engineering are separate commercial responsibilities unless the proposal combines them explicitly. We can coordinate with your chosen provider where agreed. Its repair and service obligations remain defined by the relevant circuit contract.

Can you help with both a head office and smaller branches?

Yes. Site roles can differ within one design. A large central location and a small branch may need different capacity or resilience, while still sharing a consistent operating model and a clear process for support and change.

Does this include complete cloud administration?

Not automatically. This section concerns network connectivity and related boundaries. Application, server and wider cloud administration need their own scope. Keeping those responsibilities explicit makes it easier to investigate incidents and compare proposals accurately.

Where do we start with a complex external connection?

Describe the business purpose, sites and participating providers through our contact page. We can then establish the relevant technical owners and review the current or proposed handoff before requesting sensitive network records.
