Private Network Interconnects
Connect partner organisations, market services and private networks through controlled Cisco routing and security boundaries with explicit service ownership.

response time
Average response is not a resolution time or a contractual guarantee. Support scope and response commitments are agreed for each engagement.
Private network interconnects give partners and other organisations access to agreed services. We plan Cisco-led routes, addresses and security rules around that purpose. Access should stay limited to what is needed on each side. A private link may avoid the public internet, but it does not make every connected system trusted.
The whole path
Understand how sites, providers, cloud networks and security controls fit together.
Resilience that can be tested
Separate a second circuit from genuine end-to-end service resilience.
Provider coordination
Keep addressing, routing and escalation ownership clear across organisations.
Define the relationship before selecting the transport
The first questions concern the purpose of the connection: which apps need to communicate, who owns them and which organisation can approve access. A market-data handoff, customer integration and supplier support connection have different traffic patterns and risk to the live services. We document the required flows before deciding whether a private circuit, cross-connect, routed service or encrypted tunnel is appropriate.
The specification identifies the technical and commercial duties on both sides. The carrier supplying transport may not own the routing endpoint or app service. We establish those distinctions early, including the contacts needed for rollout and incident escalation. A connection is difficult to support when each organisation assumes another party is responsible for the same boundary.

Plan addressing and routing deliberately
Private address ranges can overlap between organisations. We review the relevant networks and determine whether readdressing, translation or separate routing contexts are needed. Any translation is documented so that logs, access rules and troubleshooting evidence can be interpreted correctly. It should not become an undocumented layer that only the original engineer understands.
Cisco routing policy is built around authorised prefixes. Depending on the scale and needs, the interconnect may use static routing or a supported dynamic protocol such as BGP. Import and export filters define what can cross the boundary, and default routes are treated clearly. The design must not accidentally make either organisation a transit network for unrelated traffic.
A useful starting point

Bring the requirement. We will help you define the engineering work.
Keep security separate from transport privacy
A private path limits how traffic is carried, but encryption and access control remain separate decisions. We establish whether sensitive information needs cryptographic protection in transit and where inspection should occur. The chosen controls must fit the app, compliance needs and supported platforms. We do not describe a private circuit as encrypted unless the actual design provides encryption.
Permitted app access is narrower than general network reachability. Firewalls, routing separation and management restrictions are considered together, with particular attention to shared services and admin traffic. Negative tests are included where practical so that acceptance shows what the partner cannot reach and what works. This helps preserve a meaningful boundary as the relationship grows.

A second handoff only helps if the complete service can use it. We examine physical dependencies, routing convergence, security state and the capacity of surviving paths. Both parties need to understand which endpoint becomes preferred after a failure and whether established sessions are expected to reconnect. Those details are agreed before a production cutover.
Where the interconnect carries financial-market traffic, we distinguish transport, multicast distribution and application-feed duties. MCI works with providers including CME and ICE on clients’ behalf; those providers are not represented as our customers or endorsers. Our financial-market connectivity services address the client-side coordination and evidence needed for these specialist connections.
Implement against a shared acceptance plan
The rollout plan covers setup review, access approvals, change windows and rollback. We check the handoff specification against the actual equipment and software, then introduce routing and security changes in an order that limits unintended exposure. Both organisations should be ready to check the result rather than leaving one side to guess whether traffic is accepted remotely.
Acceptance includes expected prefixes, forward and return paths, representative app transactions and agreed failure scenarios. A circuit that is physically up or a BGP session that is established is not enough proof of app service. We record what was tested, what remains outside scope and which organisation owns any unresolved issue. The resulting evidence supports a clear handover.
Maintain the boundary after go-live
Interconnects need an owner and a change process. New prefixes, extra apps and replacement security devices can alter the original risk assessment. We recommend a current connection register, route-policy records and a periodic review of access that is no longer required. Decommissioning a partner relationship should remove routes and permissions and terminate the circuit contract.
MCI can deliver a new interconnect, review an inherited arrangement or investigate an unstable service across UK locations. Related work includes partner network connectivity and site-to-site IPsec. Start with the business purpose, participating organisations and proposed handoff. We will define the engineering scope without assuming unrestricted trust between networks.
