response time
Average response is not a resolution time or a contractual guarantee. Support scope and response commitments are agreed for each engagement.
Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN manages routes and access boundaries across supported sites from a central platform. We plan and support it around your circuits, apps and working process. The design states how paths are chosen and how faults are handled. Bringing edge devices online is one stage in delivering the complete WAN service.
The whole path
Understand how sites, providers, cloud networks and security controls fit together.
Resilience that can be tested
Separate a second circuit from genuine end-to-end service resilience.
Provider coordination
Keep addressing, routing and escalation ownership clear across organisations.
Establish what the WAN must deliver
We start with the sites, apps and connections the network supports. Offices, data centres, cloud setups and external counterparties may have different availability and security needs. We check which services are sensitive to latency or loss and which can use a wider range of paths without affecting the user experience.
Existing circuits and provider contracts are part of the assessment. SD-WAN can influence how available paths are used. But it does not create physical diversity or repair a shared carrier failure. The design records the transport dependencies and the capacity required when one connection is unavailable.
Standards & partnerships

Separate the platform roles clearly
The Catalyst SD-WAN architecture uses management, control and orchestration functions alongside the WAN edges. We establish the supported rollout model and explain which components configure the estate, distribute routing information and support device onboarding. Current and legacy component names are reconciled in project records where the customer's current documentation uses different terminology.
Platform choice includes hardware, software, licences and the intended scale. A branch with modest traffic and simple routing may have different needs from a busy aggregation site. We check the required features and capacity on the actual proposed combination instead of assuming all Catalyst devices deliver identical SD-WAN capabilities.
A useful starting point

Bring the requirement. We will help you define the engineering work.
Design routing and segmentation before templates
A repeatable setup needs a sound routing model. We identify site prefixes, default paths, service-side routing and the boundaries between business or technical segments. Central policy should express the intended network access, with clear exceptions for shared services or specialist interconnects.
Segmentation is assessed end to end. Separate logical networks in the WAN do not on their own prevent unrestricted communication through a shared firewall or cloud gateway. The design maps where traffic can cross boundaries and which control is responsible for permitting it. Those decisions are made visible before setup profiles are distributed to multiple sites.
Different environments. The same care.
Built around the work
your network supports.
Finance, banking and the wider private sector. We start with the systems and people that depend on your connections.
Finance & banking
Market-data paths, routing and provider coordination on clients’ behalf.
Financial-market services ↗Offices & multi-site teams
Reliable access between people, workplaces and business applications.
Office network design ↗Data centres & cloud
Network boundaries, workload connections and operational ownership.
Data centre networks ↗Match path policy to application requirements
Application-aware routing can use supported measurements and policy to choose appropriate paths. But it needs realistic thresholds and classification. We establish the app groups, preferred transports and acceptable degraded behaviour. A policy that repeatedly moves traffic on a marginal circuit can create a worse user experience than a stable, deliberate fallback.
We also distinguish private WAN traffic from direct internet and cloud-bound connections. Their security inspection and return paths may differ. The proposal states where each traffic class is forwarded and protected, rather than assuming every app benefits from being routed through the same hub.
Plan the transition from the existing network
A migration often requires old and new routing arrangements to coexist. We find the boundaries, temporary route exchange and the order in which sites move. The plan includes management access, app validation and rollback conditions, with particular care where a site's WAN connection is also its only support path.
A pilot should represent the difficult cases and the simplest branch. We include relevant local services, provider constraints and security dependencies. Successful registration of an edge is an onboarding milestone, not evidence that all app paths, failover cases and operating procedures are ready for a wider rollout.
Test resilience and operational visibility
Acceptance checks include expected routes, segment isolation, app reachability and agreed path-failure scenarios. We test restoration and loss, observe the impact on sessions and document any scenario that cannot safely be exercised. Measurements are interpreted in the context of the app rather than reduced to a single platform health score.
Monitoring and support ownership are defined before handover. The operations team needs to distinguish a failed circuit, a policy decision, a control connection problem and a local app issue. Useful records connect the platform view with the actual provider and site duties.
Choose the right service scope
MCI can provide a Catalyst SD-WAN architecture review, rollout engineering or support for a current estate. These can be separate engagements, and ongoing monitoring or response commitments are agreed clearly rather than implied by the product name.
Our Cisco and Meraki network services cover UK organisations with single-region and multi-site needs. Share the site inventory, current WAN and important app paths so we can assess whether Catalyst SD-WAN fits the need and define the work needed to introduce it safely. The aim is a maintainable network with evidence of its behaviour, not a larger dashboard without clear operational value.
