Multi-cloud network integration links services across more than one cloud. We plan addresses, routes and security around the actual workloads and provider models. Return paths, recovery and network-related costs are included in the design. The scope also names the teams that own each part, so cross-cloud access has a clear support route.

The whole path

Understand how sites, providers, cloud networks and security controls fit together.

02

Resilience that can be tested

Separate a second circuit from genuine end-to-end service resilience.

03

Provider coordination

Keep addressing, routing and escalation ownership clear across organisations.

Establish why the clouds need to communicate

We find the apps, shared services and data flows that require a connection. Some organisations need direct workload communication; others need users to reach separate setups without creating transit between them. Those are different designs, and unnecessary interconnection can increase complexity and exposure without providing a business benefit.

The scope includes the relevant cloud accounts or subscriptions, regions, on-premises networks and external providers. We confirm who owns each side and who may approve route or security changes. MCI's networking duties are separated from app operation and data-transfer decisions that belong to other teams.

Reconcile addressing before selecting connectivity

Cloud networks are often created independently and may reuse the same private ranges. We build a combined address inventory and identify conflicts before proposing route exchange. Overlap can require renumbering, translation or a more limited service-access design. It cannot be ignored simply because each cloud works correctly on its own.

The resulting plan includes future allocation ownership. Without a shared process, a later setup can introduce the same conflict again. We document which team maintains the prefix register and how new networks are checked against current on-premises and cloud-connected estates.

Compare supported connectivity patterns

Internet VPNs, private provider connections, cloud-native gateways and supported Cisco virtual routers can each have a role. We assess the options against traffic, availability and security needs. No single virtual appliance or provider service is assumed to offer every form of transit between every cloud platform.

The design sets out dependencies and commercial assumptions. Gateways, virtual resources, software licences and data transfer can be charged separately, and traffic direction can affect costs. We establish the information needed for a meaningful estimate rather than describing a technically simple route as automatically inexpensive to operate.

Define route propagation and transit boundaries

Each cloud has its own rules for gateways, peering and route propagation. We map the supported path clearly and check where routes must be installed or exchanged. A connection between two networks does not on its own make every other network attached to either one reachable through it.

Route filters and ownership prevent unintended propagation between setups. We find the prefixes that should cross each boundary and the treatment of defaults and summaries. The return path is checked from the destination workload, including any stateful firewall or translation point that requires consistent forwarding.

Preserve security context across different platforms

Security controls may be expressed differently in each cloud and on Cisco infrastructure. We translate the intended access model into supported enforcement points rather than assume identical names mean identical behaviour. Administrative access, production traffic and shared infrastructure services are treated according to their separate needs.

Encryption is documented per path. Private transport does not on its own establish end-to-end encryption, and a VPN protects only the traffic and endpoints within its actual scope. We work with the customer's security owners to identify the required protection and the evidence needed to check it.

Design recovery without creating circular dependencies

A multi-cloud arrangement may be intended to improve resilience. But it can introduce shared gateways, identity services or routing dependencies. We examine whether failure of one cloud or intermediate network prevents the other from operating. A recovery setup that depends on the failed primary setup for DNS or route control may not meet the intended aim.

Alternative paths are assessed for capacity and app behaviour. We test agreed failures and restoration where safe, distinguishing network reachability from complete app recovery. The plan sets out manual provider or cloud actions that could affect timing instead of assuming all changes occur automatically.

Make the operating model cross-platform

The handover connects diagrams, route policies, resource ownership and escalation contacts across the setups. Monitoring should help locate a fault at the correct boundary rather than send the customer between teams that each see their own platform as healthy. Change control accounts for effects beyond the cloud where a route or permission is edited.

MCI can assess a proposed integration or rationalise a current cloud network connectivity estate. Share the workloads, cloud networks and required relationships. We can define a supported, proportionate design without suggesting that using several providers automatically delivers resilience, security or freedom from shared dependencies.
