Average response is not a resolution time or a contractual guarantee. Support scope and response commitments are agreed for each engagement.

Network consultancy helps you make a networking decision before it becomes an expensive commitment. MCI works with organisations planning Cisco and Meraki changes, reviewing inherited infrastructure or trying to understand why a network no longer meets the needs of the business. The output is practical advice that connects the technical choices to cost, disruption and operational responsibility.

You do not need to arrive with a finished specification. A new office, an acquisition, a recurring outage or a change in how applications are hosted can all be sensible starting points. We help turn that situation into questions that can be answered, rather than assuming a new platform is the answer before the current network has been understood.

01

A clear requirement

Turn the business need into a practical network scope with visible dependencies.

02

A controlled delivery

Plan implementation, testing and rollback before production changes begin.

03

A supportable result

Leave useful records, ownership and escalation routes behind.

Advice before procurement or implementation

A consultancy engagement should resolve uncertainty. Perhaps the choice is between extending an existing Cisco deployment and moving suitable sites to Meraki management. Perhaps two proposed designs both appear credible, but differ substantially in their support requirements. We examine those differences in the context of your team and the services the network carries.

The work can also establish whether a larger project is needed at all. A configuration issue, an unsupported software dependency and a genuine capacity limit require different responses. Separating them prevents a technical symptom from becoming an unnecessarily broad replacement programme.

Where you already have a proposed architecture, an architecture review provides a focused second opinion. Where the decision spans several years, a technology roadmap sets out the order and dependencies of the investment.

Understand the business requirement in technical terms

Statements such as “the network must be resilient” need more detail before an engineer can design around them. Which activities must continue during a circuit failure? Can a branch operate with reduced capacity? Who can authorise a change during trading hours? These questions shape the design more usefully than a generic availability target.

We also establish the constraints that are easy to overlook: landlord access, service-provider lead times, existing support contracts, internal change controls and application teams that need to participate in testing. A technically sound recommendation is not useful if it cannot be delivered within the circumstances of the business.

For Cisco and Meraki environments, the discussion includes how the platform will be managed after implementation. Configuration ownership, administrator permissions and the availability of the people who will support it influence whether a design is a good operational fit.

Compare options rather than hide the trade-offs

A recommendation should make its reasoning visible. We explain what each credible option solves, what it does not solve and which assumptions could change the conclusion. Retaining equipment may reduce immediate expenditure but leave lifecycle work ahead. A wider redesign may simplify operations while increasing the scope of the migration.

Where evidence is incomplete, we identify the gap rather than presenting a confident estimate as a measured fact. That might lead to a short discovery exercise, a targeted performance assessment or a proof of concept before the final choice is made.

The aim is not a report containing every possible technology. It is an appropriate decision with enough supporting detail for technical stakeholders, budget holders and the people who will approve the work.

What you receive from the engagement

The deliverable is agreed around the decision you need to make. It may include an assessment of the current position, options with their consequences, an outline target architecture and a prioritised next-step plan. Recommendations should identify dependencies, unresolved questions and the work required to turn advice into an implementable design.

Consultancy is not automatically a low-level configuration design or an installation contract. We make that distinction explicit. When detailed engineering is needed next, network design can develop the accepted direction into specifications that implementation teams can use.

You can use the findings with your own engineers, an existing provider or a subsequent MCI project. The reasoning should remain useful regardless of who carries out the resulting work.

Network consultancy across the UK

We provide Cisco and Meraki network consultancy throughout the UK. Most of our engineers are based in Kent, and London, Sussex, Essex and Berkshire are also areas of particular focus. Remote discussions and evidence review can be combined with site work where physical conditions are relevant to the recommendation.

A multi-site engagement needs a representative view of the estate rather than assumptions based on one location. We distinguish common requirements from site-specific constraints, so an apparently economical standard design does not create repeated exceptions during rollout.

Common consultancy questions

Is consultancy suitable for a small network?

Yes. The value depends on the decision and its consequences, not simply the number of switches. A small site with important external connections or little tolerance for disruption can benefit from a tightly scoped review before a major change.

Can you review another supplier’s proposal?

We can assess the proposal against your requirements and the available evidence. The purpose is to identify strengths, omissions and material trade-offs, not to reject an approach because another company proposed it. Implementation responsibility remains separate from the review.

Will you provide a fixed implementation price immediately?

Only where the scope is sufficiently understood. Consultancy often identifies information needed for a dependable quotation. We make those dependencies visible rather than disguising uncertainty in a low initial figure that later expands through avoidable change requests.

How do we get started?

Share the decision you are facing, its deadline and the main business constraint. Discuss a network consultancy requirement without sending configuration files or credentials through the enquiry form. Detailed technical evidence can be exchanged through an appropriate route once the engagement is defined.
