Meraki network consultancy helps you decide how cloud-managed networking should fit your organisation. MCI reviews the proposed use of Meraki switching, wireless and security appliances against your site requirements, existing infrastructure and operating model. The purpose is to establish where the platform is a good fit and what must be resolved before committing to a deployment.

You may be planning your first Meraki site, standardising a branch estate or taking over a dashboard that has evolved without a clear design. Each situation needs a different brief. We distinguish choosing the platform from improving an existing deployment and from physically installing new equipment.

01

A clear requirement

Turn the business need into a practical network scope with visible dependencies.

02

A controlled delivery

Plan implementation, testing and rollback before production changes begin.

03

A supportable result

Leave useful records, ownership and escalation routes behind.

Start with the way your sites operate

A retail branch, a professional-services office and a site carrying specialist application traffic can have quite different networking needs. We look at client devices, internet connections, local services, guest access and the applications that must remain available when a dependency fails.

The management model is part of that assessment. Who owns the organisation in the dashboard? Which administrators can make changes? Will your internal team retain control, or will some responsibilities be shared with an external provider? Those questions should be answered before the first device is enrolled.

Meraki can be useful in a distributed estate, but standardisation still needs judgement. Site templates should capture what is genuinely common while leaving space for differences in addressing, connectivity and security requirements. A convenient template is not a substitute for understanding a branch.

Check feature fit before choosing hardware

We work through the functions your network needs rather than relying on a product-family label. Routing, VPN connectivity, traffic inspection, wireless authentication and switch capabilities must be checked for the proposed model, software and licence arrangement.

This is particularly important where Meraki is joining an established Cisco or third-party environment. The connection may require explicit decisions about VLANs, route exchange, VPN policy or the point at which traffic is inspected. We identify those boundaries so the project does not depend on an untested assumption of feature equivalence.

For suitable Catalyst switching deployments, Cisco documents distinct cloud-management configuration modes. That does not make every Catalyst switch interchangeable with every Meraki-managed switch. The assessment must establish supported hardware, software and configuration ownership for the actual proposal.

Make dashboard ownership and access deliberate

Operational convenience should not leave your business uncertain about access to its own infrastructure. We review the proposed organisation and network structure, administrator roles, authentication approach and arrangements for an eventual provider handover.

Where monitoring or integration uses an API, its permissions and ownership also need a place in the design. Personal administrator accounts and undocumented credentials are a poor foundation for an operational service. The engagement can identify a more supportable arrangement without exposing sensitive access details in the public project brief.

For an existing estate, the useful starting point may be a configuration and permissions review rather than a migration. We can separate policy inconsistencies from choices that are intentional and should be retained.

Understand costs beyond the appliance purchase

A Meraki proposal needs to account for licensing as well as equipment. It should identify which licences apply, how renewal responsibilities are assigned and how the intended organisation is licensed. We verify the applicable model rather than assuming that all estates use the same arrangement.

Other costs may include circuit changes, staging, site attendance, migration testing and post-installation support. A clearer comparison distinguishes those items from the purchase price. It also identifies any existing licences or equipment that can be retained, subject to the relevant terms and technical requirements.

Where the project becomes a deployment, Meraki network installation can turn the agreed approach into a configured and tested site. A move from another platform belongs in a separately planned migration, with attention to service continuity and rollback.

Turn a recommendation into a useful decision

The output explains the proposed architecture, the management arrangement and the dependencies that need to be satisfied. It can include options for the estate, a pilot-site approach and the tests required before a wider rollout.

We identify limitations as part of the recommendation, not after procurement. An organisation should be able to understand why Meraki is appropriate for a particular site and where retaining another platform is the more sensible choice. That is especially useful when the estate contains both ordinary branches and technically demanding specialist locations.

MCI provides Meraki and Cisco network services across the UK, including London, Kent and surrounding counties. We can combine remote dashboard review with on-site discovery where cabling, radio coverage or physical resilience affects the decision.

Questions about Meraki consultancy

Can you review a dashboard set up by another provider?

Yes, with authorised access and an agreed scope. We establish ownership, understand existing design choices and identify material issues. The review should preserve working services rather than changing settings simply to make the estate resemble a preferred template.

Does cloud management remove the need for network engineering?

No. It changes how parts of the network are administered, but addressing, segmentation, application paths and physical connectivity still need a coherent design. Consultancy connects those requirements to the capabilities and limitations of the proposed Meraki deployment.

Must every location move to Meraki?

No. A mixed estate may be appropriate. We examine the connections and operational boundaries between sites so the design can be managed consistently without claiming that every location has identical technical needs.

How do we begin?

Discuss your Meraki network plans with an outline of the sites, existing platforms and intended outcome. Please do not provide dashboard credentials in an enquiry. Access and technical evidence can be arranged appropriately after the scope has been established.
