Network Licensing Assessment

Review Cisco and Meraki entitlement, feature and renewal dependencies so the planned network service matches the licences and support actually held.

Average response is not a resolution time or a contractual guarantee. Support scope and response commitments are agreed for each engagement.

Network licensing assessment checks the licences and subscriptions linked to your Cisco and Meraki devices. We compare what is installed, which features you need and the commercial records available. The result clarifies gaps, renewals and support needs. It gives you a basis for a decision without assuming that every licence or licensing model must change.

Licensing questions often become urgent during a refresh, acquisition or provider handover. They are easier to resolve when the estate is understood before a purchase or renewal deadline. Technical setup alone may not establish the rights or entitlements the organisation holds.

01

A clear requirement

Turn the business need into a practical network scope with visible dependencies.

02

A controlled delivery

Plan implementation, testing and rollback before production changes begin.

03

A supportable result

Leave useful records, ownership and escalation routes behind.

Reconcile the live estate with the commercial records

We start with the devices, management organisations and features in use. That information is compared with the available licence, subscription and support records, identifying where ownership or coverage remains unclear.

A reliable network inventory is a useful foundation. Devices that have been retired, moved or added without updating the records can make the commercial view difficult to interpret.

The assessment distinguishes equipment ownership from licence and support rights. A device being physically present does not prove that every intended feature or support service is covered, and a procurement record may not show how a licence has actually been assigned.

Check the applicable Cisco and Meraki arrangements

Cisco and Meraki products do not all use one licensing approach. We establish the relevant model for the actual estate and consult the applicable vendor information rather than relying on a general statement about the brand.

For Meraki, Cisco documents subscription, co-termination and legacy per-device arrangements, with different availability and behaviour. The assessment identifies which applies to the organisation and what the current renewal or transition needs mean for that setup.

For Cisco infrastructure, the review considers the relationship between the intended functions, software and entitlements. The result should identify the questions that need vendor or commercial confirmation, not present an engineering interpretation as a definitive legal opinion on licence terms.

Understand the operational consequences

Renewal dates, ownership and admin access can affect the ability to maintain or change the network. We identify duties for monitoring those dates, approving renewals and keeping the records aligned with the deployed estate.

The consequence of a licensing issue depends on the product and model. A universal claim that every expired licence has the same effect would be misleading. Where behaviour in use matters to a decision, the applicable vendor documentation and contractual position are checked clearly.

Support coverage is considered separately. A software entitlement, hardware warranty and technical support agreement are not automatically interchangeable. The assessment makes those distinctions visible so the organisation knows which route applies when assistance or replacement is needed.

Plan changes and renewals with fewer assumptions

A proposed refresh or migration can alter the licensing need. We check what may be retained, what needs a different entitlement and which changes require confirmation before procurement.

Meraki organisation changes and provider handovers need particular care around legitimate control and assignment. The process must follow the applicable vendor rules rather than assuming licences can be moved freely because the businesses involved have agreed a technical transition.

The output can support a renewal plan or a technology roadmap. It should make the timing and dependencies clear without presenting an early planning allowance as a final commercial quote.

Receive a practical exceptions and actions register

The deliverable records the reviewed scope, available evidence, identified gaps and recommended next actions. Items can include missing ownership information, uncertain coverage, approaching renewals or a feature need that needs commercial validation.

Each action should have an appropriate owner. Some can be resolved by the network team, while others require procurement, the licence holder or the vendor. This avoids leaving an engineering report as the only record of a commercially important dependency.

Hardware supply and licence purchasing remain separate from the assessment. The purpose is to establish what the organisation needs and already holds before committing to a transaction.

Licensing assessment questions

Can you confirm compliance from device access alone?

Not reliably in every case. Technical information needs to be reconciled with the relevant commercial records and terms. The assessment identifies its evidence base and any questions that require vendor or legal confirmation.

Will you recommend one Meraki licensing model for everyone?

No. The appropriate position depends on the current organisation, current vendor options and the customer’s needs. We review the actual circumstances rather than assuming a single model is automatically suitable for every estate.

Can the review cover an upcoming acquisition?

Yes. Ownership, assignment and support questions can be included in network due diligence. The findings help identify dependencies before the transition. But they do not replace legal advice on transfer rights or contract terms.

What records are useful first?

An equipment inventory, renewal schedule and available licence or support references provide a starting point. Discuss a network licensing assessment to establish the scope and a secure way to exchange the relevant records.
