Wireless networks need to work where people and devices actually use them. MCI designs, deploys and investigates Cisco and Meraki wireless environments around building conditions, client behaviour and application needs. A connection indicator is not the whole measure of success: users need a usable service in the locations and situations that matter to their work.

A new office, an unreliable existing deployment and a technology refresh call for different starting points. We establish whether the main question concerns coverage, capacity, authentication, roaming or the network beyond the access point before proposing a solution.

01

Coverage and capacity

Design Wi-Fi around the spaces, devices and traffic that depend on it.

02

Secure access

Align authentication, segmentation and guest access with the wider network.

03

Measured performance

Validate roaming, interference and user experience instead of relying on signal bars.

Find out what the building and users require

Wi-Fi design and surveys provide a route for understanding the environment rather than guessing access-point positions from a floor plan alone. The scope should identify the areas, devices and applications that need assessment.

Meeting rooms, open offices and operational spaces can place different demands on the same site. A design based only on total staff numbers may miss the concentration of users or the way equipment moves through the building.

We also establish practical constraints such as cabling routes, mounting permissions and available power. Those details affect whether a proposed design can be installed as intended.

Choose the operating model before the hardware list

Meraki wireless and Cisco controller wireless provide different management routes that need to be assessed against the requirement. The appropriate choice depends on supported features, operating responsibilities and the existing estate.

For relevant architectures, Cisco Campus Gateway can be evaluated as part of the wider design. The role of each component must be clear, with current platform and release requirements checked before a recommendation is made.

We do not treat management convenience as the only criterion. Client compatibility, authentication, resilience and the team’s ability to maintain the environment all contribute to a sustainable choice.

Assess Wi-Fi 7 as a business decision

Wi-Fi 7 may be relevant to a refresh, but a newer standard is not a guaranteed cure for an existing fault. The proposed benefit needs to be considered alongside client capability, the wired network and the actual radio environment.

A business may sensibly adopt new equipment during a planned renewal while retaining some older clients. The design should explain what those clients can use rather than imply that every device receives the same capability immediately.

Hardware, licensing, local regulatory requirements and supported software must be checked for the intended deployment. Headline speeds are not a site acceptance criterion for every user and application.

Make access appropriate for each user group

Staff, guests and specialist devices often need different ways to connect and different access afterwards. Guest wireless should be designed around the intended visitor experience without quietly granting unnecessary access to internal systems.

Identity and access-control services need coordination with the teams that own users and devices. For Cisco and Meraki environments, the relevant security design may involve Cisco ISE, Cisco Access Manager or another agreed service.

The project should test the actual client journey. Joining the wireless network, receiving an address and reaching an authorised application are related steps, but they should not be treated as one indistinguishable event.

Investigate before adding more access points

Wireless troubleshooting starts with the symptom and evidence. Interference, client behaviour, authentication and upstream network problems require different corrective actions.

Adding equipment without understanding the fault can increase complexity without fixing the experience. We identify what needs measurement and use representative users and locations to assess the result.

For wider performance concerns, the investigation can extend into switching, security controls and external application paths. MCI’s Cisco and Meraki network services keep those related responsibilities visible rather than stop at the wireless management screen.

Wireless network questions

Can you improve Wi-Fi without replacing everything?

Sometimes. A review may identify configuration, placement or supporting-network changes that address the problem. Other environments need a more substantial refresh. The recommendation should follow the evidence rather than assume that every poor experience requires new hardware.

Will a survey guarantee perfect coverage everywhere?

No universal guarantee is appropriate. A survey and design have defined conditions, areas and acceptance criteria. Building changes, interference and client differences can affect later behaviour, so the result should state what has been assessed and how it will be maintained.

Do you cover sites outside London?

Yes. We provide services across the UK, with particular focus on London, Kent, Sussex, Essex and Berkshire. Most engineers are based in Kent. Survey and installation arrangements are agreed for the locations involved rather than restricted to London addresses.

What should we provide for an initial discussion?

Share the site type, approximate layout, users and the main problem through our contact page. Existing plans and sensitive technical records can be exchanged later through an approved route. A clear description of the user experience is the most useful beginning.
