Average response is not a resolution time or a contractual guarantee. Support scope and response commitments are agreed for each engagement.
Cisco SD-Access can apply common access rules across a wired and wireless campus. A fabric adds its own support needs, so it should solve a clear problem. We help you assess that fit and plan the design, identity services and external links. The handover also covers how your team will run and change it.
Cisco-focused engineering
Design around the platform, traffic and failure behaviour you actually operate.
Change with evidence
Use pre-checks, acceptance criteria and a documented route back.
Operational handover
Keep the configuration, diagrams and responsibilities understandable after delivery.
Decide what the fabric should improve
A growing campus may have inconsistent VLAN designs, repeated manual setup and difficulty keeping device access aligned with business roles. Another organisation may need stronger separation between staff, contractors and operational equipment. These are clearer starting points than a general request to make the network software-defined.
We document the current problem, the desired policy outcomes and the constraints of the estate. A conventional routed design may remain the better answer for a modest or stable network. Where SD-Access is appropriate, the proposal explains which tasks it can simplify and which duties remain with the network and security teams. Automation does not remove the need to approve policy or understand failures.

Bring the architecture together
SD-Access combines a routed underlay with a fabric overlay and defined control, policy and management functions. Cisco Catalyst Center provides management and automation, while identity and group-policy needs may involve Cisco ISE. The devices and software must form a supported combination; individual product compatibility is not enough to establish whole-solution compatibility.
We identify fabric edge, border and control-plane roles and the services they depend on. Addressing, DNS, time synchronisation, certificates and management network access are part of that foundation. The design also records which systems sit outside the fabric. An app hosted in a data centre still needs a deliberate path and policy through the fabric boundary.
A useful starting point
Not sure where to start?
Bring the requirement. We will help you define the engineering work.
Make segmentation understandable to the business
Virtual networks can provide separate routing domains, while group-based policy can express more detailed communication rules. We start with the relationships that should be permitted, not an unnecessarily large number of tags or virtual networks. Every segment should have a purpose, an owner and an agreed method for admitting endpoints.
Shared services deserve early attention. Users may need DNS, authentication, printing or management systems without gaining broad access to other groups. Those needs are translated into a policy matrix and tested. A successful login does not prove that the resulting access is correct, so acceptance includes both allowed and prohibited traffic.
Different environments. The same care.

Network boundaries, workload connections and operational ownership.
Data centre networks ↗Plan wired and wireless together
Wireless can be integrated with the fabric or delivered through another supported model. The right choice depends on controllers, access points, roaming needs and the migration path. We avoid assuming that a current wireless rollout can be converted without changes to software, endpoint addressing or authentication.
The radio design remains a separate engineering responsibility. Fabric policy cannot repair poor coverage, interference or insufficient airtime. Where needed, the engagement coordinates SD-Access integration with a wireless review so the customer receives a usable service rather than a correctly configured fabric attached to an unreliable access layer.
Move from assessment to a controlled pilot
A readiness assessment establishes hardware and software fit, identity dependencies, operational readiness and outstanding risks. The next stage can be a representative pilot with defined users and apps. This gives the team an opportunity to exercise onboarding, policy changes and fault investigation before a larger migration.
Pilot success should be measured against the original need. We test endpoint access, shared services, external network access and chosen failure scenarios. Findings are fed back into the design. A demonstration that one laptop can connect is not enough evidence for migrating a campus with printers, phones, specialist systems and third-party support access.
Prepare the team for day-to-day operation
A fabric changes how engineers investigate network access. Support procedures should distinguish endpoint onboarding, identity policy, underlay reachability and overlay forwarding. We provide diagrams, ownership records and practical investigation paths rather than leaving the team dependent on one person who performed the rollout.
The operating model also covers controller protection, backups, software compatibility and change approval. Device upgrades and Catalyst Center upgrades have different consequences and must be planned accordingly. Monitoring should identify degraded resilience and missing telemetry, not only report that a device remains reachable.
Scope the project around a deliverable
MCI can provide assessment, fabric design, rollout, migration or troubleshooting as defined engagements. We agree which outcomes will be delivered, what depends on customer systems and which tests establish acceptance. Our Cisco and Meraki network services cover sites across the UK, with project delivery planned around the actual estate and maintenance constraints. Start with the access and operational problems you need to resolve. The architecture should follow them.
