Predictive Wi-Fi design uses a model of the building, intended equipment and expected demand to plan a wireless deployment before installation. MCI Network Services prepares Cisco and Meraki designs that support budgeting, access-point placement and cabling decisions while making the modelling assumptions explicit. Predictive work is particularly useful for new premises or refurbishments, but it is not a substitute for measuring the completed environment. We define what the model can support and what must be verified on site.
Coverage and capacity
Design Wi-Fi around the spaces, devices and traffic that depend on it.
Secure access
Align authentication, segmentation and guest access with the wider network.
Measured performance
Validate roaming, interference and user experience instead of relying on signal bars.
Start with usable building information
We request scaled floor plans and details of wall construction, ceiling heights and areas with unusual materials or obstructions. The model is only as credible as the information behind it. A drawing with incorrect dimensions or missing internal structures can produce a convincing-looking result that does not represent the real radio environment.
We also identify changes expected before occupation. Partition walls, shelving, machinery and furniture can alter both coverage and user density. Where the final layout is uncertain, we record alternative assumptions or identify a decision point for revisiting the design. This is more useful than treating an early architectural plan as an immutable description of the site.

Define users, applications and client capabilities
The design brief establishes which spaces need wireless service, how many devices may be active and what they will do. A meeting room full of video calls requires different planning from a corridor used mainly for movement. We include specialist devices and their supported bands or security limitations rather than designing solely for the newest available client technology.
Roaming and application sensitivity are specified separately. A device used while walking through a warehouse may need continuous connectivity along a route, not just coverage at fixed points. We agree the relevant performance objectives and the circumstances in which they apply. These requirements guide the model and later testing, preventing vague promises that every device will receive the same experience everywhere.

Model equipment and placement deliberately
We use the characteristics of the proposed access points and antennas, with suitable assumptions about orientation and mounting. A ceiling-mounted integrated antenna and a directional external antenna produce different patterns. The plan should show how the selected arrangement serves the intended area, not merely place devices at regular intervals because the drawing looks balanced.
Channel width, band use and power assumptions are considered alongside placement. Wider channels can offer benefits in suitable conditions, but they also affect reuse and capacity across the site. We assess the trade-off for the expected environment rather than selecting the largest supported width by default. The output records the design principles so later configuration can be compared with the model.
Different environments. The same care.
Built around the work
your network supports.
Finance, banking and the wider private sector. We start with the systems and people that depend on your connections.
Finance & banking
Market-data paths, routing and provider coordination on clients’ behalf.
Financial-market services ↗Offices & multi-site teams
Reliable access between people, workplaces and business applications.
Office network design ↗Data centres & cloud
Network boundaries, workload connections and operational ownership.
Data centre networks ↗Include the infrastructure needed to support the design
Access-point locations imply cabling and power requirements. We identify the proposed network outlets, switch capabilities and uplink considerations so the installation team can plan the supporting infrastructure. A wireless design is incomplete if its preferred locations cannot be cabled or if the selected access points cannot receive the power needed for their intended operation.
We also note management, addressing and authentication dependencies that must be resolved by the wider network project. Predictive RF work does not configure those services, but it should identify their importance. Where another supplier owns the switching or security infrastructure, we provide the relevant requirements and acceptance responsibilities rather than assume they will be inferred from an equipment schedule.
Explain uncertainty and the need for measurement
A predictive model estimates behaviour; it does not observe neighbouring networks, unexpected interference or the final installation. We identify the assumptions most likely to affect the result and recommend how they should be checked. For a difficult environment, an access-point-on-site assessment may be needed before finalising mounting positions or committing to a large rollout.
After installation, a Wi-Fi validation survey can compare the delivered service with the design intent. Deviations may result from changed building conditions, installation differences or client behaviour. We treat those findings as evidence for adjustment, not as a reason to insist that the original model must be correct because it was produced before the equipment was fitted.
Provide a design that supports procurement and installation
The deliverable can include placement drawings, equipment assumptions, coverage predictions and a schedule of dependencies. We identify areas requiring special attention and separate recommended equipment from optional enhancements. The customer receives a practical basis for cost and installation discussions, with enough context to understand the consequences of moving or substituting an access point.
MCI can provide predictive design as a standalone engagement or combine it with Wi-Fi design and surveys through deployment and validation. Send scaled plans, intended use and the expected client types to establish the scope. We will identify missing inputs early and state what the design can reasonably predict, rather than presenting a model as a guarantee of performance in an unmeasured environment.
