response time
Average response is not a resolution time or a contractual guarantee. Support scope and response commitments are agreed for each engagement.
Outdoor Wi-Fi design plans for the space, weather exposure and devices using the service. We assess supported Cisco and Meraki options for the agreed area and local operating conditions. Client access and radio backhaul are treated separately. The design states the site’s limits, since outdoor-rated equipment alone does not prove reliable coverage at any distance.
Coverage and capacity
Design Wi-Fi around the spaces, devices and traffic that depend on it.
Secure access
Align authentication, segmentation and guest access with the wider network.
Measured performance
Validate roaming, interference and user experience instead of relying on signal bars.
Define the coverage and application requirement
We identify where users and devices need service, how they move and which apps matter. A seating area used for occasional internet access differs from a loading zone where handhelds support operational transactions. The design includes the client types and their capabilities because the endpoint must transmit back successfully. A strong access-point signal alone does not prove a usable two-way link.
The scope also identifies boundaries. The customer may not need coverage beyond its premises, and unnecessary spill into neighbouring areas can create operational and security concerns. We agree the intended service footprint and the areas that can be excluded. This supports proportionate placement and antenna choices rather than a design that simply maximises transmitted power.

Assess the physical environment and installation
We review mounting locations, height, obstructions, vegetation and the route between the access point and intended users. The setup may change seasonally or as vehicles and equipment move. Those conditions are recorded so a clear-path survey is not treated as proof that every later obstruction will have no effect on the service.
Environmental rating, cabling protection, power and maintenance access are checked for the chosen equipment. Outdoor work can require specialist electrical, structural or access arrangements, which remain with the appropriate qualified parties. We identify those dependencies early. A network design should not assume that a suitable mounting point can be used without the owner’s permission or the necessary installation assessment.
A useful starting point

Bring the requirement. We will help you define the engineering work.
Select supported radios, antennas and operating conditions
We check the hardware’s regional suitability and the applicable band, power and rollout rules for the location. Product documentation may describe features available in other countries, so those examples are not automatically carried into a UK design. Where newer spectrum arrangements are relevant, the current authorisation and equipment support must be checked before the service is specified.
Antenna patterns and orientation are chosen to serve the required area. We use supported combinations and assess the trade-off between focused coverage and broader access. The installation drawing identifies orientation and mounting assumptions clearly enough for the contractor to reproduce them. Changing an antenna or moving the equipment informally can alter the result even if dashboard settings remain the same.
Different environments. The same care.

Office network design ↗Data centres & cloud
Network boundaries, workload connections and operational ownership.
Data centre networks ↗Treat backhaul as a separate design decision
Some locations can be cabled directly, while others may require a supported wireless mesh or point-to-point arrangement. We assess the backhaul path independently of client coverage, considering capacity, interference and the effect of extra wireless hops. A device providing a strong client signal is not useful if its connection back to the business network is unstable or overloaded.
Where wireless backhaul is proposed, we check the path and supported topology with appropriate measurements. We also consider channel changes and environmental conditions that may interrupt the link. The design should state the limitations and available alternatives, rather than presenting mesh as equivalent to a dedicated cable under every condition. Installation convenience and service resilience need to be considered together.
Apply appropriate access and security controls
The outdoor service may be corporate, guest or dedicated to operational devices. We set out authentication, addressing and permitted destinations for each use. Physical accessibility can increase the importance of protecting equipment and management interfaces. But the controls should remain practical for the intended users. A public-facing SSID does not justify unrestricted access to internal networks.
Discovery and roaming needs are reviewed where the service crosses between indoor and outdoor areas. We test representative clients on the actual route rather than assuming continuity from overlapping coverage maps. The transition can involve different radio conditions, authentication behaviour and network paths, all of which may affect an app used while a person or vehicle moves through the site.
Validate the installed service and record limitations
Acceptance checks the agreed locations and representative workloads, including the backhaul where used. We record weather, obstructions and test conditions that matter to interpretation. Areas not safely accessible or not tested are identified. Where seasonal changes could materially affect the path, the operating plan includes a review rather than an unconditional long-term performance claim.
MCI can deliver outdoor design within Wi-Fi design and surveys or assess a troublesome external area in a current estate. The final package covers placement, setup principles, installation dependencies and maintenance duties. It gives the customer a realistic service boundary and a practical basis for future changes, rather than relying on an access point’s advertised range as a guarantee.
