Meraki temporary site connectivity gives a short-term office or project site a planned network. The design can combine supported cellular access, security, switches and Wi-Fi. We cover setup, support and removal as one job. The site’s short life does not remove the need for access controls, clear ownership and useful records.
Dashboard clarity
Structure organisations, networks and permissions around real operational ownership.
Consistent sites
Use repeatable standards without ignoring the differences between locations.
Practical operations
Keep cloud management connected to physical links, users and business services.
Define the site’s purpose and operating period
We establish who will use the location, which apps they need and how long the arrangement is expected to last. A project cabin, short-term office and public event have different user, physical and support needs. We also identify whether the temporary network connects to corporate systems or serves only limited internet access.
The planned end date matters from the outset. It influences equipment ownership, subscription choices and the amount of permanent installation work that is justified. We record what happens if the project is extended and who can authorise that extension. This avoids a temporary service becoming an unmanaged permanent dependency because nobody reviewed the original assumptions when the schedule changed.

Check practical access and connectivity options
We review available wired services and cellular suitability rather than assuming mobile network access is always the fastest or most reliable choice. Where cellular is appropriate, the assessment considers carrier coverage, gateway placement and the intended workload. Site access, power and mounting permissions are confirmed before engineers arrive, particularly where the location is controlled by a landlord, contractor or venue operator.
Physical protection is important in temporary setups. Equipment may be exposed to dust, weather, accidental disconnection or unauthorised handling. We select an installation approach consistent with the hardware’s needs and the site conditions. Network engineering work does not replace specialist electrical, structural or safety approval where those disciplines are needed, and their duties are made clear in the plan.
A useful starting point
Not sure where to start?
Bring the requirement. We will help you define the engineering work.
Keep temporary users and corporate access separate
The design sets out staff, contractors, guests and operational devices that need network access. We agree how they authenticate, which services they can reach and whether they should communicate with one another. A shared wireless password distributed widely may be convenient. But it can create access and removal problems when contractors rotate through the site.
Where corporate network access is required, we define the permitted routes and security boundary. A temporary office should not receive unrestricted access to the main business network simply because the same organisation operates both. We also establish who owns endpoint security and user support. The network service can provide a controlled path. But it does not prove that every connected laptop is managed appropriately.
Different environments. The same care.

Data centre networks ↗Prepare a repeatable deployment pack
We can stage the setup before dispatch, with site-specific addressing, approved policies and a clear device inventory. The installation pack explains cabling, power, mounting and the tests needed before users begin work. It also identifies the remote support contact and an alternative communications route if the network itself is unavailable during setup.
Repeatability is useful when several temporary sites are involved, but local differences remain important. Carrier conditions, building layouts and app needs can vary. We use a common baseline with documented exceptions rather than treating a copied setup as proof that the next site is ready. The resulting records allow support engineers to recognise both the standard arrangement and the features unique to each location.
Test the work people need to perform
Acceptance focuses on representative users and apps. We check network access, authentication, relevant corporate paths and separation between user groups. For cellular rollouts, we observe capacity and latency under a useful workload, not only an idle speed test. The customer should know which activities were tested and which may need further checking as more people occupy the site.
Support arrangements include service hours, escalation and local assistance. A temporary location may not have an IT employee available to inspect a cable or power supply. So that practical dependency needs agreement. We also identify who monitors data use and carrier status. A technically sound network can still become unavailable if a subscription expires or its allowance is exhausted without anyone responding.
Remove the service as carefully as it was installed
At closure, we reconcile equipment, revoke temporary access and review the handling of setup and service records. Corporate VPN connections, guest credentials and external support permissions should not remain active without a continuing purpose. The customer receives a record of what was removed, returned or retained for the next rollout.
MCI can provide temporary network access as a focused engagement or as an interim stage of a larger office rollout. Our Meraki MG gateway deployment service covers the cellular component where suitable. Tell us the location, intended start and end dates, user numbers and required apps so the proposal can distinguish essential engineering from optional features and avoid promises that depend on unconfirmed site or carrier conditions.
