Meraki provider handover gives the incoming team the access, records and agreed duties needed to run the network. We help when work moves to a new supplier, back in-house or into a shared support model. The customer should keep control of its accounts. Service duties must remain covered throughout the change, beyond simply handing over a login.

01

Dashboard clarity

Structure organisations, networks and permissions around real operational ownership.

02

Consistent sites

Use repeatable standards without ignoring the differences between locations.

03

Practical operations

Keep cloud management connected to physical links, users and business services.

Separate ownership from administrative access

The customer should understand who owns the equipment, licences and organisation, and who currently has permission to administer them. These may be different parties. We review the contract and get the appropriate authority before changing access or moving devices. Possessing an administrator login is not a substitute for establishing the right to transfer control.

Where the customer already owns a suitable organisation, the handover may require changes to administrator access rather than a migration of the network itself. Where the estate sits inside a supplier-controlled structure, a more involved transition may be necessary. We explain that distinction early, because it affects risk, lead time and the amount of setup work needed.

Request evidence that helps the receiving engineers

The handover pack should include current diagrams, device and licence records, site contacts, addressing and the services carried by each network. We also request known problems, maintenance history and setup exceptions. A collection of screenshots without context makes it difficult to distinguish an intentional design choice from an unresolved fault.

We assess the information received against the live admin view where authorised. Important gaps are documented rather than quietly filled with assumptions. For example, a firewall rule may be active but have no recorded business owner. The receiving team needs to know whether it can be changed safely or whether further investigation is required before taking responsibility for that part of the service.

Transfer access without creating an interruption

We establish customer-controlled administration and test the receiving team’s access before removing the outgoing provider. This includes identity-provider roles, emergency access arrangements and permissions for the relevant networks. The access test should use the accounts that engineers will actually use, rather than a single unrestricted account borrowed for the transition.

Automation credentials and integrations need separate treatment. API keys, monitoring services, alert destinations and ticketing connections may belong to the outgoing organisation. We identify replacements, test the new path and agree when old access will be revoked. Shared passwords are not accepted as a durable handover method. The resulting access model should support individual accountability and controlled removal when duties change.

Make the support boundary explicit

A handover date must identify who handles incidents, changes and vendor escalation at each stage. We agree how an issue already open with Cisco, a carrier or another provider will be transferred. The receiving team should not discover during an outage that the relevant support case or circuit account remains inaccessible to it.

Service hours, response commitments, maintenance approval and on-site duties are confirmed in the new agreement. They do not on their own inherit from a previous contract or from the availability of dashboard. We can work alongside an internal team. But the split needs to identify who may approve a disruptive change and who communicates with users while the incident is being investigated.

Test the service the new team is accepting

Acceptance starts with the agreed network scope. We check dashboard visibility, important app paths, network access between sites and the operation of relevant security boundaries. We also confirm that alerts reach the new recipients and that the receiving team can retrieve the information it needs for troubleshooting. Monitoring that still notifies an inactive mailbox is a handover failure even when users remain connected.

Any limitations are recorded as exceptions with an owner. A long-standing wireless fault or unsupported device should not be presented as a new defect introduced by the transfer, nor silently accepted without a plan. The purpose of the acceptance record is to establish a shared baseline from which the new support arrangement can operate fairly and effectively.

Finish with a controlled removal of old access

Once acceptance is agreed, we remove or reduce the outgoing provider’s permissions according to the authorised plan. We review outstanding accounts, integrations and shared documentation locations, retaining only access that has a clear continuing purpose. The customer receives confirmation of the final admin structure and the routes for operational and commercial escalation.

For a handover that also requires an organisation change, our Meraki organisation consolidation and migration work can be included in the scope. MCI supports Cisco and Meraki networks across the UK. An initial discussion should identify the current arrangement, intended ownership and contract end date so the transition can be planned before access or supplier cooperation becomes time-critical.
