Average response is not a resolution time or a contractual guarantee. Support scope and response commitments are agreed for each engagement.

Managed data centre networks cover the agreed Cisco fabric and the tasks needed to run it. We coordinate changes and faults with server, storage, virtualisation and security teams. The service scope states which parts we manage and which remain with others. Managing the network does not automatically include every workload connected to it.

01

Useful visibility

Monitor service-relevant conditions rather than collecting alerts without ownership.

02

Controlled change

Keep maintenance, automation and configuration work reviewable and recoverable.

03

Clear escalation

Connect incidents to the right engineering, provider and business contacts.

Define the supported fabric and its dependencies

We inventory Nexus switches, relevant controllers or management platforms, external routing and other included network components. Software, licences, support status and important feature use are recorded. Traditional switching, ACI and VXLAN EVPN setups require different operational knowledge, so their management activities are specified rather than hidden within a generic device count.

The inventory is linked to services and failure domains. We identify management, tenant, storage and external paths, including dependencies owned by other teams. This context allows incident priorities and maintenance decisions to reflect business impact rather than the apparent size of a technical alarm.

Establish configuration ownership

The service defines whether changes are made through a controller, automation platform or device interface and who owns each source of setup. Conflicting tools can create drift or undo an engineer’s work. So the operating model must explain which mechanism is authoritative for the relevant settings.

Customer access, privileged roles and emergency procedures are agreed at onboarding. The aim is traceable administration, not unnecessary supplier lock-in. Recovery access and documentation should remain usable when the normal management system or identity service is unavailable.

Monitor control plane and forwarding context

A fabric can have healthy management network access while workloads experience a forwarding or policy fault. We choose monitoring that reflects the supported design, including relevant adjacencies, endpoint state, interfaces and external dependencies. The exact measurements depend on platform capability and the customer’s agreed service scope.

Alert handling should identify degraded resilience and complete outages. A lost uplink or fabric component may not immediately stop apps but can reduce capacity or leave the service exposed to a second fault. The process assigns an owner and appropriate priority rather than waiting for users to report a total failure.

Investigate incidents across team boundaries

We trace affected traffic through the Cisco network and compare the live state with the intended design. Application symptoms, tenant context and return paths are collected alongside switch or controller evidence. A broad statement that the fabric is healthy is not enough when a particular workload remains unreachable.

Where the cause involves a host, storage platform or external firewall, we coordinate with its owner and provide a focused evidence record. Diagnostic actions are controlled to avoid disrupting unrelated tenants. Sensitive captures and settings are handled according to an agreed access and retention scope.

Plan maintenance with supported paths

Data-centre upgrades require checks of software compatibility, feature dependencies and the management platform and the switches. We review the exact source and target versions and establish the supported sequence. High-availability features do not justify promising that every upgrade will be non-disruptive.

The maintenance plan identifies workload constraints, recovery steps and validation by the relevant owners. Where a change affects a host uplink or storage path, the surviving connection is checked before relying on it. Rollback limitations are documented, especially when the change includes a controller or fabric-state transition.

Maintain capacity and recovery readiness

Capacity reviews examine ports, uplinks, shared paths and the expected load during a failure. They also consider upcoming workload or storage changes that can alter traffic patterns. A low average usage figure is not the only evidence used to decide whether the fabric can support an expansion.

Configuration and platform backups are assessed for practical recovery. We record what they include, which external dependencies are required and how chosen recovery procedures can be tested. A successful export does not on its own prove that the fabric can be rebuilt within an app’s recovery aim.

Agree a service that matches the estate

Reporting can cover incidents, changes, lifecycle risks, lost resilience and documentation gaps, with actions linked to owners. The proposal specifies service hours, response targets, change allowances, vendor coordination and on-site arrangements. Storage administration, hypervisor management and app support remain separately identified duties.

MCI can provide ongoing care after a data centre network rollout or assess an inherited fabric for onboarding. We support organisations throughout the UK and begin with a redacted topology and support needs, building a service around the network you actually run rather than a standard package that conceals its important dependencies.
