response time
Average response is not a resolution time or a contractual guarantee. Support scope and response commitments are agreed for each engagement.
Managed Cisco networks require an operating model that reflects the actual mix of platforms, software and business services in use. A Catalyst access layer, a Nexus fabric and an internet-edge router cannot all be maintained through one undifferentiated checklist. MCI Network Services provides ongoing Cisco network management with clear scope, controlled changes and evidence that helps your team understand the condition of the estate.
Useful visibility
Monitor service-relevant conditions rather than collecting alerts without ownership.
Controlled change
Keep maintenance, automation and configuration work reviewable and recoverable.
Clear escalation
Connect incidents to the right engineering, provider and business contacts.
Establish the supported Cisco inventory
We record the devices, operating systems, feature use, licences and vendor-support arrangements included in the service. The assessment identifies dependencies on controllers, identity systems and external providers. Equipment that is unsupported, inaccessible or outside the agreed ownership boundary is recorded as an exception rather than silently accepted.
The inventory is linked to sites and services. Knowing a switch model is useful, but understanding which users, workloads or connections depend on it is what makes incident priorities meaningful. We build enough context to distinguish a routine port issue from a fault affecting a critical business path.

Agree configuration and administrative ownership
The service defines who can change devices, how access is granted and how customer administrators remain involved. Shared responsibility can work well when it is explicit; it becomes risky when several teams make changes without a common record. We agree account roles, approval routes and the handling of emergency access.
Configuration standards are tailored to the supported platforms. Management protection, logging, time services and interface descriptions can be made consistent without pretending that every Cisco family supports identical commands or features. Exceptions are documented with their reason and reviewed as the estate changes.
A useful starting point

A short description of the problem is enough for an initial discussion.
Monitor the conditions that matter
Monitoring can include device health, interface state, routing relationships and selected service paths, depending on the agreed scope. We choose measurements that lead to an operational decision. A large number of polls does not compensate for missing visibility into the gateway or interconnect on which important applications depend.
Alert severity reflects service impact and redundancy. A lost standby path should be visible even when users remain connected, while routine maintenance should not generate an uncontrolled incident storm. The monitoring design includes who receives each class of alert and what action they are expected to take.
Different environments. The same care.

We investigate the supported Cisco components and trace relevant forwarding paths, involving carrier or application owners where required. The incident record distinguishes observed facts, diagnostic actions and the reasoning behind a proposed change. Broad resets are not used as a substitute for understanding a recurring fault.
Response commitments depend on the contract. We state service hours, escalation routes and any on-site arrangements explicitly, and distinguish a response target from a guaranteed resolution. Where a repair depends on a vendor or carrier, the customer should understand that dependency and the coordination included in the service.
Maintain software and configuration deliberately
Software planning considers the actual platform, required features, security exposure and supported upgrade paths. We review release information and compatibility before scheduling a change. The aim is a maintained estate, not an automatic policy of installing every newest release or indefinitely retaining a version because it has not yet caused an obvious incident.
Changes include pre-checks, implementation records and post-change validation. Backup and recovery methods are reviewed for the relevant devices and controllers. A configuration file alone may not reproduce software, licences or external dependencies, so the recovery record identifies what else is needed.
Keep capacity and lifecycle decisions visible
Regular reviews can identify heavily used links, exhausted ports, ageing hardware and expiring support. Recommendations are prioritised by service risk and business plans. A proposed refresh should explain the requirement it addresses rather than become a default response to every performance complaint.
We also review configuration drift and temporary workarounds. A route or access rule added during an incident may need removal once the permanent correction is in place. Keeping those actions visible prevents the network from accumulating undocumented exceptions that complicate the next change.
Define the engagement and handover
MCI can manage an agreed Cisco estate directly or work through a co-managed service with your internal engineers. The proposal specifies the supported inventory, monitoring, maintenance, reporting and change responsibilities, together with commercial and exit arrangements.
Our Cisco and Meraki network services support customers across the UK. An initial estate overview and description of your current support gaps allow us to scope the work without requesting credentials through a public form. The resulting service should leave your organisation with clearer records and responsibilities, not dependent on undocumented knowledge held by one supplier.
