response time

Average response is not a resolution time or a contractual guarantee. Support scope and response commitments are agreed for each engagement.

Managed wireless services keep Cisco or Meraki Wi-Fi aligned with the building and the devices using it. We agree which settings, checks and fault response are covered. The service also defines when a problem needs a deeper survey or specialist investigation. This gives the team a process for dealing with change after installation.

01

Useful visibility

Monitor service-relevant conditions rather than collecting alerts without ownership.

02

Controlled change

Keep maintenance, automation and configuration work reviewable and recoverable.

03

Clear escalation

Connect incidents to the right engineering, provider and business contacts.

Establish the wireless service baseline

We record access points, controllers or cloud-management arrangements, software, licences and physical locations. The inventory is linked to the areas and apps the network is intended to support. A count of online access points does not prove whether meeting rooms, handheld devices or important roaming paths receive an adequate service.

Where survey or design records exist, we compare them with the current estate. Missing evidence or significant changes in layout are recorded as risks that may require a separate assessment. Routine management should not imply that an undocumented installation has been proven suitable for every present and future use.

Define configuration and identity ownership

The service identifies who approves SSIDs, access policies, guest arrangements and changes to authentication. Wireless network access can depend on identity systems, certificates, DHCP and DNS owned by other teams. Those boundaries need named contacts and a joint troubleshooting route rather than an assumption that every connection failure belongs to the access point.

Administrative access and recovery are also defined. Customer visibility is retained according to the agreed model, while privileged changes to the settings remain traceable. Shared templates and organisation-wide settings receive appropriate review because a small edit can affect many sites or user groups at once.

Monitor useful indicators of experience

We select operational measures relevant to the platform and service, such as access-point availability, uplink health, authentication outcomes and radio conditions. Measurements are interpreted in context. A busy channel does not on its own justify changing power or adding an access point, and a low average usage value does not rule out a local coverage problem.

Alert handling distinguishes service interruption, loss of resilience and advisory conditions. The proposal states the monitoring and engineering response hours separately. Continuous telemetry collection should not be mistaken for an unlimited commitment to investigate every wireless event immediately.

Troubleshoot from the affected client

Wireless incidents are investigated using the device, location, time and app involved. We examine association, authentication, addressing and the later network path. Client drivers, roaming decisions and power-saving behaviour may be relevant. But they are treated as evidence to examine rather than a reason to dismiss every complaint as an endpoint problem.

The investigation compares a representative failing device with suitable working cases. Remote evidence may identify the cause; some problems require an on-site survey or packet analysis. We explain when that extra work is needed and keep it distinct from routine configuration management if it falls outside the agreement.

Control radio and service changes

Changes to channels, transmit power, minimum data rates or roaming-related settings can help one need while harming another. We review the affected client population and test the intended result before applying a broad policy. Automated radio features still need an understood design and monitoring context.

Guest access and segmentation changes are assessed with the same care. The service should preserve the intended separation from business resources and coordinate any splash-page or identity changes with the relevant privacy and security owners. Convenience does not justify silently weakening isolation to resolve a connection complaint.

Plan firmware and physical lifecycle work

Firmware changes are reviewed against supported hardware, known issues and the features in use. Pilot groups and post-change checks reduce the risk of a widespread regression. Maintenance scheduling considers site activity and the possibility that users will need to reconnect during the work.

Physical changes also matter. An access point moved into a cupboard or a new partition can invalidate earlier coverage assumptions without generating a hardware alarm. The operating process encourages notification of building and occupancy changes so capacity and coverage can be reassessed before complaints become persistent.

Review the service as the business changes

Useful reporting identifies recurring authentication failures, problem locations, capacity trends and work requiring a design decision. It does not treat every client event as equal or use a favourable overall score to conceal an important local issue. Recommendations are tied to evidence and an owner.

MCI delivers managed Cisco and Meraki networks throughout the UK. A wireless service proposal sets out the inventory, coverage assumptions, support duties, change allowances and any separately scoped surveys. That gives your team a clear operating relationship while preserving a route to deeper engineering work when the setup changes.
