response time

Average response is not a resolution time or a contractual guarantee. Support scope and response commitments are agreed for each engagement.

A network security assessment checks whether your controls fit the risks you face. We review Cisco and Meraki systems with the owner’s permission and within an agreed scope. The work may find broad access rules, exposed management services or kit that is no longer supported. Each finding comes with evidence and a practical next step.

01

Defined trust

Make access boundaries explicit rather than relying on an assumed internal network.

02

Controlled access

Connect identity, policy and network enforcement to the services people actually use.

03

Evidence for change

Test the intended security outcome and retain useful operational records.

Choose the assessment that answers your question

First, we agree the question you need answered. A settings review may check who can manage a device. A review of known flaws may check vendor security notices. A penetration test may try to cross a boundary with permission. These are different tasks, with different methods and access needs.

The scope sets the limits of what a result can prove. Switch settings alone cannot show whether every endpoint is secure. A scan for known flaws cannot prove that an app grants the right access. The proposal names the systems, controls and tests included. It also states which evidence the work will not provide.

Agree authorisation and operating boundaries

We identify who owns each system and get permission before collecting settings or running active checks. Shared systems and provider-managed kit may need separate approval. The same applies to other customer networks linked to yours. Being able to reach a device does not give anyone the right to test it.

The plan sets out the allowed checks, change windows, contacts and reasons to stop. Services that run critical operations or serve financial markets may need extra care. If a test could disrupt a service, we discuss safer options. We explain both what those checks can show and what they cannot prove.

Build an evidence-based view of the estate

We start with the asset list, network map and key app paths. We compare them with device settings, management tools and agreed observations. Missing or conflicting records are findings too. They can make it harder to judge the risk or restore a service during an incident.

We collect only the evidence needed for the review. Settings, logs and packet captures may hold passwords, personal data or business secrets. We agree what to mask, how to send it, who can see it and how long to keep it. The report should explain each finding without copying secrets into it.

Examine the controls that matter to your network

The agreed checks may cover admin access, identity checks, network boundaries, firewall rules, software support and monitoring. We assess controls for the actual Cisco or Meraki system in use. That means checking the device, software version, licence and management model. One general checklist cannot settle every question about every platform.

We also look at what happens when normal service changes. A strong login policy may still rely on an unmanaged emergency account. A backup path may lose controls that work on the main path. We review maintenance, recovery and supplier access, as well as normal use.

Separate observations from conclusions

Each finding states what we saw, which systems it affects and what the evidence supports. We keep confirmed risks separate from ideas that still need testing and gaps in the records. Your team should be able to trace a finding back to its evidence and decide how urgently to act.

A technical score is one part of the risk. Where and how a service runs also matters. An admin service exposed to the internet differs from one on an isolated maintenance network. We explain the reasons for each rating. We also note other controls or facts that may change it, including those outside our review.

Turn the report into a manageable improvement plan

The report groups findings into work that can be planned and carried out safely. Some fixes change settings. Others need new software, a named access owner, supplier help or a new design. We explain the likely benefit, what must happen first and the possible impact on service.

Fixing and retesting are separate parts of the agreed scope. Accepting a suggestion does not mean it has been applied. Applying a change does not prove that the fault is gone. Where follow-up tests are included, we compare the new result with the original finding and record what remains unresolved.

Support assurance without overstating it

The report can help an internal risk review or a wider assurance programme. It does not by itself certify your business against ISO 27001, PCI DSS or another standard. The programme owner or assessor decides how to use the evidence. Our ISO 27001 network evidence support covers that link between network records and the wider review.

MCI can review a specific Cisco or Meraki service or an agreed network scope across several UK sites. Tell us the concern, the services that matter and the decision you need to make. We can then agree the right checks, permissions and outputs, with a practical plan for the next steps.
