A Meraki network security review checks both Dashboard access and the traffic rules used at sites. We assess permissions, network boundaries and recovery ownership against how the estate is used. The findings identify specific gaps and evidence. A common dashboard makes some tasks easier, but it does not prove that every site is secure.
Defined trust
Make access boundaries explicit rather than relying on an assumed internal network.
Controlled access
Connect identity, policy and network enforcement to the services people actually use.
Evidence for change
Test the intended security outcome and retain useful operational records.
Define the organisations and networks in scope
We establish which Meraki organisations, networks and device families belong to the customer and which are operated by suppliers. Ownership matters when access, licensing or equipment changes are required. An engineer being able to view a network does not necessarily mean the business retains the admin rights needed to recover or transfer it.
The inventory includes site purpose, important apps, internet access and any templates or shared policies. We identify local exceptions and setup inherited from earlier rollouts. This makes it possible to assess the effective site behaviour rather than reviewing only a template that no longer represents every branch.

Examine administrator access and recovery
Dashboard roles, authentication and account ownership are central to the review. We assess whether everyday support users have appropriate permissions and whether high-impact changes are limited to the necessary people. Former staff, external suppliers and shared accounts require clear ownership and removal processes.
Single sign-on and multi-factor authentication are reviewed with their recovery dependencies. A strong normal sign-in flow can still leave the organisation exposed through an unmanaged fallback account or unable to administer the network during an identity outage. We document how emergency access is controlled and tested without publishing sensitive recovery details in a general report.
A useful starting point

Bring the requirement. We will help you define the engineering work.
Review the actual traffic boundaries
Wireless, switching and security-appliance settings are assessed according to their role. Guest access, corporate devices, building systems and management interfaces may need different treatment. We trace the forwarding paths and identify which controls enforce the intended separation, including upstream devices outside the Meraki dashboard where applicable.
Client isolation, VLAN assignment and firewall policy solve different problems. A wireless setting that limits communication between clients does not on its own prove that guests cannot reach an internal app through a routed path. Where needed, we check the boundary using the approach described in our guest Wi-Fi isolation testing service.
Different environments. The same care.

The review examines the effective rules and exceptions relevant to the agreed scope. This can include traffic shaping, VPN access, group policies and supported security features. We compare the settings with the customer's stated needs and available entitlements, avoiding assumptions that every device or licence offers the same inspection capabilities.
Linked systems also need a review. API credentials and webhook destinations can expose data or permit settings changes. We check why each link exists, who owns it and what access it has. Old or excessive access is removed through an agreed change process. An unfamiliar integration is investigated before it is disabled.
Assess software and change management
Firmware status is reviewed against the supported device families, known issues and relevant vendor information. A newer release is not automatically the right choice for every site at the same moment. We consider compatibility, critical apps and the customer's ability to recover if a change affects network access.
The operational review includes how upgrades, template changes and exceptions are approved. A dashboard action can affect many sites. So a repeatable process should include pilot choice, validation and communication. We identify where broad admin reach is not matched by a suitable change-control or rollback arrangement.
Validate monitoring and incident evidence
Alerts need to describe a problem someone can act on and reach a team that owns the response. We check key health and security events, where notices go and which records are kept for investigation. A device being online does not prove that every app works or that each access boundary is enforced.
Evidence collection is limited to the agreed purpose. Client information, connection histories and event records may contain personal or confidential data. We agree access and retention arrangements and avoid copying unnecessary device or user detail into the final report when a narrower example can support the finding.
Produce recommendations that fit the operating team
Findings distinguish confirmed weaknesses, setup inconsistencies and areas that need further testing. Each recommendation identifies its scope and likely rollout dependency. A policy adjustment may be straightforward, while an ownership transfer or segmentation change can require coordination with other teams and suppliers.
MCI can assess a single Meraki site, a shared organisation or a wider multi-site estate. The outcome is a clear view of admin control, traffic protection and support duties, with an agreed path to remediation. It is not a certification or a guarantee that no incident can occur. It is practical evidence for improving the network you actually operate.
