Meraki Roaming Optimisation
Improve Meraki Wi-Fi roaming by checking client capabilities, authentication behaviour and coverage along the routes users take through your site.

Average response is not a resolution time or a contractual guarantee. Support scope and response commitments are agreed for each engagement.
Meraki roaming optimisation checks what happens as a device moves between access points. We assess radio coverage, client choices, sign-in and traffic paths together using suitable test devices. The aim is fewer avoidable breaks in service. Findings distinguish network changes from limits that the device or app owner will need to address.
Coverage and capacity
Design Wi-Fi around the spaces, devices and traffic that depend on it.
Secure access
Align authentication, segmentation and guest access with the wider network.
Measured performance
Validate roaming, interference and user experience instead of relying on signal bars.
Define the movement and application requirement
We find the routes users follow and the tasks they perform while moving. A voice call, warehouse transaction and ordinary web session can tolerate different interruptions. The assessment records the client model, software and security profile, because those details influence both roaming decisions and the time needed to establish service through another access point.
We also distinguish roaming complaints from general connection loss. A device that disconnects while stationary may have a different problem from one that fails at the same doorway every time. The initial evidence includes timestamps, locations and the user-visible symptom. This prevents the investigation from starting with a broad change to the settings before the actual failure pattern has been established.

Assess cell overlap and client selection
The RF layout needs to provide suitable alternatives along the movement path. We examine coverage, signal quality and the relationship between neighbouring cells. Excessive overlap or an imbalance between access-point and client transmission can encourage unhelpful associations. The aim is a usable progression of cells, not simply the strongest possible signal everywhere.
Clients decide when to seek or select another access point, subject to their rollout and the information available. Supported network features can assist. But they do not make every endpoint behave identically. We test the affected device population and avoid promising that one dashboard setting can force universally seamless roaming across all operating systems and radio chipsets.
A useful starting point

Bring the requirement. We will help you define the engineering work.
Review authentication and supported roaming features
We assess the security method and the supported use of roaming assistance or fast-transition mechanisms. Compatibility depends on client capabilities, access-point software and the chosen forwarding arrangement. A feature that helps one client population can be unsuitable for another. So the setup is checked before it is applied across a mixed estate.
The identity path is part of the investigation. A slow or unavailable authentication dependency can extend an interruption even when the RF transition is appropriate. We correlate the relevant client and network events with the authentication outcome. This helps distinguish an access-point-selection problem from a delay that occurs after a suitable new radio connection has already been chosen.
Different environments. The same care.
Built around the work
your network supports.
Finance, banking and the wider private sector. We start with the systems and people that depend on your connections.
Finance & banking
Market-data paths, routing and provider coordination on clients’ behalf.
Financial-market services ↗Offices & multi-site teams
Reliable access between people, workplaces and business applications.
Office network design ↗Data centres & cloud
Network boundaries, workload connections and operational ownership.
Data centre networks ↗Check addressing and the traffic path across the roaming area
Roaming can involve changes in VLAN, subnet or tunnel endpoint depending on the architecture. We establish how client addressing and app sessions are intended to behave across the relevant area. The same SSID name on adjacent access points is not enough evidence that the service path remains consistent or that all necessary mobility features are supported.
For larger designs, the assessment may include supported centralised forwarding or Campus Gateway arrangements. We check the exact platform and release rather than relying on older assumptions about dashboard-network boundaries. Where the current architecture does not meet the app need, the recommendation may involve a design change rather than continued tuning of radio settings that cannot resolve an addressing discontinuity.
Test representative routes and recovery behaviour
We perform agreed movement tests with the affected app active, recording transitions and user-visible effects. The route, device orientation and setup are noted where relevant. A successful walk through an empty building may not represent a busy warehouse or a crowd-filled corridor. So the test conditions and remaining uncertainty are stated clearly.
Changes are introduced in a controlled order and compared against the baseline. We inspect both normal movement and recovery from an unexpected connection loss where appropriate. The acceptance record distinguishes improvement observed on the tested clients from assumptions about untested devices. This gives the customer a defensible result rather than a broad promise based on a single successful call.
Maintain compatibility as the estate evolves
The handover records the client assumptions, security settings, roaming design and relevant RF principles. New endpoint models, driver updates or changes to authentication should trigger suitable testing. Roaming quality can change without an access-point hardware change. So the support process needs input from both wireless and endpoint teams.
MCI can provide a focused optimisation engagement or investigate specific Wi-Fi roaming faults. We can also include mobility testing within a wider Meraki rollout. Share the affected device types, app and movement route so the scope addresses the actual interruption and avoids repeated radio adjustments where the evidence points to a different dependency.
