Average response is not a resolution time or a contractual guarantee. Support scope and response commitments are agreed for each engagement.

Managed networks give a business a defined way to look after connectivity rather than relying on whoever happens to be available when something fails. MCI Network Services provides Cisco and Meraki network management with an agreed inventory, responsibilities and operating process. The service can support an internal IT team or take responsibility for specified network functions, without assuming that every connected application and device falls within the same contract.

01

Useful visibility

Monitor service-relevant conditions rather than collecting alerts without ownership.

02

Controlled change

Keep maintenance, automation and configuration work reviewable and recoverable.

03

Clear escalation

Connect incidents to the right engineering, provider and business contacts.

Start with the estate and the business requirement

We establish which sites, switches, wireless systems, firewalls and WAN connections need management. The inventory records ownership, software, licences and support dependencies. A device that appears in a dashboard is not automatically included in the service, and unsupported or inaccessible equipment needs an explicit decision before onboarding.

The business requirement determines the operating model. Some customers need configuration and lifecycle management alongside their own service desk; others need monitoring, incident investigation and provider coordination. We describe those activities separately so the proposal can be compared with the work your team actually needs rather than a broad managed-service label.

Make ownership clear before taking over

The agreement identifies who owns administrative accounts, configuration records and the authority to approve changes. Customer access and recovery arrangements are considered from the beginning. A management relationship should not make it unnecessarily difficult to inspect your own estate or transfer the service at the end of the contract.

Third-party boundaries are equally important. Carriers, hardware vendors, cloud providers and application teams retain their own obligations. We can coordinate with them within the agreed scope, but a provider escalation is not the same as controlling its repair time or guaranteeing the recovery of an application outside the managed network.

Distinguish monitoring from engineering response

Monitoring identifies selected conditions; engineering response investigates and acts on them. We agree the assets, measurements, alert handling and service hours for each. Continuous data collection does not automatically mean that every incident receives an immediate round-the-clock engineering response.

Severity definitions connect technical events to business impact. Loss of a backup circuit may leave users working but remove resilience, while a single failed access switch may stop a critical department. The operating process should reflect those differences and explain how the customer receives updates and how unresolved incidents are escalated.

Control changes without making routine work difficult

A managed network needs a practical route for requests such as a new VLAN, wireless policy or firewall rule. We agree which changes are included, what information is required and which need separate assessment. Approval must remain meaningful, especially when a request could affect security or services at several sites.

Implementation records include the intended result, checks and recovery action. Emergency changes may follow a faster route, but they still need ownership and retrospective review. The objective is not paperwork for its own sake; it is to avoid unexplained configuration drift and make later troubleshooting possible.

Keep the platform supported and recoverable

Lifecycle work reviews software releases, hardware support, licence dependencies and replacement needs. We prioritise actions according to exposure and service importance rather than updating every device merely because a newer version exists. Planned maintenance includes compatibility checks and a realistic assessment of interruption.

Configuration protection is matched to the platform. Traditional device backups, cloud-managed settings and controller data may require different recovery methods. We document what can be restored and test selected procedures where agreed, rather than treating a successful backup job as proof that the service can always be rebuilt.

Report outcomes that help decisions

Useful reporting explains incidents, recurring faults, lost resilience, capacity pressure and outstanding risks. Alert volume alone is not a measure of service quality. We agree the measures and review frequency so the report supports operational decisions rather than presenting a large collection of graphs with no clear action.

The service review also identifies changes in the customer’s estate or business priorities. New sites and applications can alter the original scope. Those changes should be discussed openly, including their effect on cost, support coverage and the responsibilities shared with your internal team.

Choose a manageable service boundary

MCI provides managed Cisco and Meraki networking throughout the UK, with particular emphasis on London, Kent, Sussex, Essex and Berkshire. We can begin with a defined subset of the estate or assess a wider transfer through managed network onboarding.

For a proposal, provide a site and asset overview, your current operating arrangements and the gaps you want addressed. Pricing, service hours, response targets, change allowances and exit arrangements are then documented for that scope. You receive a service you can understand and govern, not an assumption that the word managed covers every possible requirement.
