response time
Average response is not a resolution time or a contractual guarantee. Support scope and response commitments are agreed for each engagement.
On-site network engineering provides practical Cisco and Meraki expertise where the work requires someone at the equipment or location. MCI can support installations, investigations, controlled replacements and technical site visits within an agreed engagement. We plan the visit around a defined task so the engineer arrives with the right access, information and dependencies in place.
Our services cover the UK, with particular focus on London, Kent, Sussex, Essex and Berkshire. Most of our engineers are based in Kent. Attendance, travel and response arrangements are confirmed for the specific site and requirement rather than implied by a nationwide service statement.
A clear requirement
Turn the business need into a practical network scope with visible dependencies.
A controlled delivery
Plan implementation, testing and rollback before production changes begin.
A supportable result
Leave useful records, ownership and escalation routes behind.
Decide what actually needs a visit
Some tasks cannot be completed remotely: tracing a physical connection, checking rack conditions or confirming what equipment is installed may require local attendance. Other problems can be narrowed down remotely before a visit is booked.
We establish the question the visit must answer and which actions may be authorised. An engineer sent to inspect a fault should not be expected to perform an unplanned network redesign without the necessary preparation.
Where remote specialists are already involved, we agree how the on-site work will support their investigation. Photographs, labels and test results should be recorded in a form that can be related to the actual devices and connections.

Prepare the site and working arrangements
Site access can depend on named approval, security procedures, escorts or a booked maintenance window. Those requirements need to be known before travel is arranged.
We also confirm the relevant rack locations, equipment details and any physical work restrictions. Power, structured cabling and building access may be controlled by separate contractors or facilities teams, so the network scope should identify those boundaries.
Necessary hardware, optics, patch leads and access equipment must be available where they are part of the task. A visit cannot be assumed to include every possible replacement component or specialist facility service.
A useful starting point
Tell us what is happening.
A short description of the problem is enough for an initial discussion.
Make changes with a clear record
Before disconnecting equipment, the existing arrangement should be understood well enough to avoid unnecessary disruption. Labels, interface records and photographs can help establish that baseline, subject to your security and photography rules.
The engineer follows the agreed sequence and records deviations. If the site differs materially from the information supplied, the next action should be reassessed rather than improvised simply to complete the visit.
For installations, acceptance testing connects the physical work to a useful service result. A neatly patched cabinet is not the whole deliverable if the required users or applications still cannot connect.

Network boundaries, workload connections and operational ownership.
Data centre networks ↗Coordinate remote and local expertise
On-site engineering often works best alongside a remote configuration or application team. We agree communication channels, authority and the evidence each person needs before the maintenance window begins.
Where a task is purely physical, the remote team may retain configuration responsibility. Where MCI is responsible for both, that should be explicit in the scope rather than inferred from the engineer’s presence.
For several locations, multi-site rollouts provide a more structured delivery model. Common readiness checks and consistent handover records are useful, while each site still needs its genuine local differences recognised.
Finish with a usable handover
The visit record should show what was inspected or changed, the resulting tests and anything left unresolved. It should also identify temporary arrangements that require follow-up, such as borrowed connections or incomplete labelling.
Where the original issue could not be reproduced, that limitation is recorded honestly. A visit can still provide useful evidence, but absence of a symptom during attendance is not proof that the problem has disappeared permanently.
Use our enquiry page to share the location, task, equipment and preferred timing. Do not include confidential site-access codes or credentials in the initial public message; secure arrangements can be agreed once the engagement is established.
On-site engineering questions
Can you attend a data centre?
Attendance can be considered where access authority, working rules and task scope are established. Data-centre procedures may require advance booking and named engineer approval. Any restrictions on photography, tools or change activity should be supplied before the visit.
Do you include electrical or structured cabling installation?
Not automatically. The scope distinguishes network engineering from work requiring separate facilities or cabling contractors. We can coordinate relevant dependencies where agreed, but an equipment visit should not be read as an unlimited building-services commitment.
Can our own staff provide local hands instead?
For some tasks, an authorised local person can assist a remote engineer. We assess whether the task is suitable and whether the person has the required access and ability. Complex or risky physical work may need a specialist visit.
Is there a fixed attendance time for every UK location?
No universal attendance commitment is made here. Location, availability, access and contract terms determine the arrangement. We confirm realistic delivery details for your sites rather than advertise a response that cannot be supported everywhere.
