Cisco Wi-Fi 7 readiness checks what your site needs before a wireless refresh. We review access points, switches, client devices, security and management together. The findings separate essential preparation from optional improvements. This helps you decide what must change and what can stay before committing to installation.

01

Coverage and capacity

Design Wi-Fi around the spaces, devices and traffic that depend on it.

02

Secure access

Align authentication, segmentation and guest access with the wider network.

03

Measured performance

Validate roaming, interference and user experience instead of relying on signal bars.

Define the proposed service, not just the equipment

We begin by asking what the new wireless network needs to do differently. A dense office, a training facility and a warehouse may require different capacity, roaming and client-compatibility outcomes. The assessment records the apps, locations and user groups within scope. This prevents the readiness exercise becoming a generic equipment inventory with no connection to the business reason for upgrading.

The proposed management model is also identified. Controller-based and dashboard-managed Cisco wireless have different platform and software dependencies. We review the actual target arrangement rather than assuming that a common access-point brand makes every operating mode interchangeable. Where the architecture is undecided, the assessment compares the relevant choices and records which decisions must be resolved before a rollout plan can be finalised.

Assess the installed physical network

Switch capability is checked at the ports that will serve the new access points. We review supported Ethernet speeds, PoE delivery, total switch power and the effect of a supply failure where redundancy is required. A switch can have suitable individual ports while lacking enough power to operate all planned devices under the agreed conditions. That distinction belongs in the readiness report.

Cabling and mounting are assessed against the chosen access-point needs. Existing cable labels do not prove the performance of an installed link, especially where termination or patching history is uncertain. We identify where testing, remedial work or revised placement is needed. The report makes those physical tasks visible before the wireless team arrives for commissioning and discovers that an assumed prerequisite has not been met.

Review the client and authentication estate

A client inventory should include more than recently purchased laptops. We identify operating systems, wireless adapters, drivers and specialist endpoints that matter to daily operations. Supported features can vary within a nominal device family, so representative test devices are chosen deliberately. A successful demonstration on one current laptop does not prove readiness for every device used by the organisation.

Identity setup is reviewed alongside client capability. Certificates, supported security modes, protected management-frame needs and device onboarding can affect the transition. We identify legacy dependencies that need remediation or a separately scoped compatibility service. Those exceptions should have an owner and a review point, rather than becoming an indefinite reason to avoid applying the intended security design to the rest of the estate.

Check radio and spectrum assumptions

The assessment considers intended bands, channel reuse and user density. Existing access-point locations are not automatically accepted as a complete design for the new service. We review available survey evidence and identify where an updated on-site assessment is needed. Performance expectations should be tied to actual coverage and airtime conditions, not merely to the maximum capability of the proposed radios.

UK regulatory needs and the product’s supported regulatory domain are checked separately. New spectrum decisions, vendor feature announcements and deployable functionality can follow different timelines. We document what is supported for the proposed release and location, with uncertain or future capabilities excluded from the committed outcome. The customer can then distinguish a sound rollout basis from an assumption that still requires validation.

Build a readiness matrix with actionable outcomes

Each finding is linked to a consequence and a next action. For example, a power limitation may require a switch-supply change, while an authentication issue may require endpoint setup rather than new access points. We prioritise blockers, material risks and optional improvements separately. This helps the customer avoid spending on a broad refresh when a smaller prerequisite is the actual constraint.

The assessment also defines a representative pilot. It states which clients, spaces and apps should be tested, what evidence will count as success and who will approve exceptions. Our wireless client compatibility testing service can provide the detailed client work where that is the main uncertainty. Readiness is shown through evidence, not through a checklist completed entirely from product descriptions.

Turn the findings into a deliverable plan

The final report includes the supported target architecture, prerequisite work, unresolved decisions and a proposed rollout sequence. It identifies duties across networking, identity, facilities and app teams. That ownership matters because a wireless project can be delayed by a dependency that is technically straightforward but has no agreed delivery date or authorised person responsible for it.

MCI can carry the assessment into a Wi-Fi 7 migration or hand over the plan to your rollout team. Provide the current inventory, site plans and the desired business outcome. We will define the readiness scope and the evidence needed to proceed, without presenting a favourable product specification as proof that the current setup is already prepared.
