Wi-Fi 7 Migration
Stage a migration from older wireless generations to Cisco Wi-Fi 7, preserving required client access while validating new radios and network dependencies.

Wi-Fi 7 migration should improve the wireless service without losing the device compatibility, access controls or support knowledge the organisation already depends on. MCI Network Services plans phased Cisco and Meraki migrations that connect the new access-point capability to the wired network, identity services and real client workflows. The approach is to establish a supported target, prove it with representative users and expand only when the evidence supports the next stage.
Coverage and capacity
Design Wi-Fi around the spaces, devices and traffic that depend on it.
Secure access
Align authentication, segmentation and guest access with the wider network.
Measured performance
Validate roaming, interference and user experience instead of relying on signal bars.
Inventory the service being replaced
The starting point is an accurate view of access points, management platforms, software and wireless services. We also identify important clients, including older or specialist equipment that may not be visible during a normal laptop-focused review. Device age alone is not the deciding factor; the assessment records what each group needs and which supported security and radio capabilities it can use.
Existing problems are documented before migration. An unreliable application, a congested circuit or a poor switch uplink should not be attributed to the new wireless platform merely because it becomes visible during the cutover. Baseline evidence helps distinguish an inherited issue from a migration defect and provides a meaningful way to assess whether the project has delivered the improvement the customer expected.

Agree the target architecture and exceptions
We confirm the supported access-point, firmware and management combination, together with addressing, authentication and forwarding policy. A move to Wi-Fi 7 does not automatically require changing every aspect of the network. Where the architecture is also changing, its consequences are made explicit so the project does not combine several major transitions without a clear test and recovery plan.
Legacy clients may require a separate compatibility arrangement, an endpoint update or replacement. We document the chosen treatment and its security boundary. Exceptions should be limited to a genuine requirement and reviewed over time, rather than becoming an indefinite reason to preserve an unsuitable configuration for all users. The readiness findings determine which prerequisites must be completed before any production area is moved.
A useful starting point
Not sure where to start?
Bring the requirement. We will help you define the engineering work.
Prepare switching, cabling and physical work
The new access points are checked against installed switch ports, power budgets and uplink capacity. We identify any cabling tests, supply changes or mounting work required. These tasks are scheduled before the wireless cutover so that engineers do not discover a power limitation only after removing the equipment that previously served the area.
The installation plan records locations, labels and access requirements. A replacement in the same ceiling position still needs validation against the radio design and the new device’s antenna characteristics. Facilities constraints and safe working arrangements are included in the scope. The customer should understand which work is remote configuration, which requires a site visit and which depends on a separate cabling or installation contractor.

Data centre networks ↗Pilot a meaningful part of the estate
A pilot includes representative clients and applications, with fresh onboarding as well as established connections. We test security, addressing, roaming and the intended use of newer features. The wireless client compatibility testing service provides a structured way to record results where the device population is a major project risk.
We select a pilot area that is manageable without being artificially easy. A quiet room with one current laptop cannot establish readiness for a busy floor with voice devices and older endpoints. The test report records conditions, versions and exceptions. Material issues are resolved before expansion, or accepted explicitly with a clear impact and owner rather than hidden in a general statement that the pilot was successful.
Sequence coexistence and rollback
During a phased rollout, old and new wireless areas may coexist. We plan network names, security, radio use and mobility boundaries so users are not left to discover incompatible transitions themselves. A familiar SSID does not guarantee identical authentication or session behaviour across two different operating arrangements. Those boundaries are part of the acceptance tests.
Rollback must remain possible at each stage. We retain the configuration and equipment needed to restore the previous service where that is the agreed recovery method. The plan accounts for firmware, inventory assignment and switch-port changes, not merely the physical replacement of an access point. Stop conditions and decision ownership are set before the window, allowing the team to pause a rollout that is not meeting its agreed criteria.
Close the project with an operational baseline
After deployment, we reconcile the installed inventory and configuration with the target design. Temporary exceptions are removed or assigned a review date, and monitoring is updated for the new estate. Handover includes known client limitations, test evidence and the responsibilities for future firmware and policy changes. This makes the migration a controlled service transition rather than a collection of equipment swaps.
MCI provides Cisco and Meraki network services throughout the UK, including London and the surrounding counties. Share the current wireless inventory, site schedule and applications that cannot tolerate an unplanned interruption. We can prepare the migration scope and delivery sequence, using the Wi-Fi 7 service overview as a starting point for deciding which capabilities are relevant to the business rather than assuming every available feature must be enabled immediately.
