Wireless client compatibility testing establishes how the devices your organisation actually uses behave on a proposed Cisco or Meraki wireless service. MCI Network Services tests representative clients against the intended authentication, radio and forwarding configuration, recording results that can inform a rollout decision. The work is particularly useful before a Wi-Fi 7 migration, a security-mode change or a controller refresh where a successful test on one laptop would leave important uncertainties unresolved.
Coverage and capacity
Design Wi-Fi around the spaces, devices and traffic that depend on it.
Secure access
Align authentication, segmentation and guest access with the wider network.
Measured performance
Validate roaming, interference and user experience instead of relying on signal bars.
Build a representative device matrix
The test population is agreed with the customer rather than chosen from whichever devices are easiest to find. We include relevant operating systems, wireless adapters, drivers and specialist endpoints, together with the applications they support. A device family can contain different radio components or software versions, so model names alone may not define a meaningful test group.
We identify the business consequence of a failure for each group. A visitor tablet and a production scanner may require different acceptance criteria and escalation priorities. The matrix records who owns endpoint configuration and who can approve an update or exception. This prevents a test programme from finding a compatibility problem without anyone authorised to resolve it before the planned deployment date.

Test onboarding from a clean starting point
A client that has previously connected may retain credentials, certificates or network state that hides an onboarding defect. We therefore include fresh connection tests using an agreed procedure. The checks cover discovery, authentication, certificate trust where applicable, address assignment and access to the intended applications. They also confirm that the client receives the correct policy rather than merely any working connection.
The security configuration is tested as designed. We do not disable controls indiscriminately until a device joins and then describe the result as compatible. If an endpoint cannot meet the target requirements, the report explains the gap and the available treatment. That may involve an update, a different supported setting or a separately controlled legacy service, subject to the customer’s approval.
A useful starting point

A short description of the problem is enough for an initial discussion.
Exercise normal work and movement
Application testing should reflect how the device is used. Voice calls, video collaboration, scanning transactions and ordinary browsing expose different network behaviours. We agree representative tasks with the application owner and record the conditions under which they are performed. A throughput result is included only when it answers a relevant question; it is not a universal proxy for user experience.
Mobility is tested along realistic routes where it matters. We observe access-point changes, authentication events and application continuity, distinguishing a radio transition from a DHCP, routing or application issue. Our Wi-Fi roaming fault diagnosis service can investigate a specific problem found during testing. The client remains an active participant in roaming decisions, so a network setting alone does not guarantee identical behaviour across all endpoints.
Different environments. The same care.

Finance, banking and the wider private sector. We start with the systems and people that depend on your connections.

Financial-market services ↗Offices & multi-site teams
Reliable access between people, workplaces and business applications.
Office network design ↗Data centres & cloud
Network boundaries, workload connections and operational ownership.
Data centre networks ↗Verify newer capabilities explicitly
For Wi-Fi 7 or 6 GHz projects, we check whether the client actually uses the intended band and supported features. A device connecting to a new access point may still operate using an earlier capability set. The report distinguishes basic interoperability from successful use of a particular feature, so a customer does not mistake a connection pass for proof of the upgrade’s whole business case.
Where multi-link operation is relevant, we record the available evidence of negotiation and practical effect. We also note limitations in the controller, dashboard or endpoint tools. Unsupported conclusions are left out rather than inferred from a product specification. This keeps the test record useful when a later firmware or driver release changes behaviour and the customer needs to compare it with the original baseline.
Investigate failures with controlled changes
When a test fails, we collect timestamps, client context and the relevant wireless or identity evidence. We change one material factor at a time where practical, so the cause can be distinguished from a coincidental recovery. Broad resets and simultaneous configuration changes may make a device work temporarily while destroying the information needed to explain why it failed.
Diagnostic data is collected under an agreed scope. Packet captures and endpoint logs can contain sensitive information, so access, retention and sharing are defined before collection. Vendor escalations receive the evidence needed to reproduce the problem without unnecessary customer data. The outcome should be an explained result and an actionable next step, not merely a folder of logs that nobody has interpreted.
Turn results into a rollout decision
The final matrix records passes, failures, tested versions and any approved exceptions. It identifies which combinations are ready, which require remediation and which were not available for testing. Untested devices are not silently counted as compatible. We also define when retesting is needed, such as after a material driver, security-policy or wireless-software change.
MCI can provide this work as a focused assurance engagement or within a Wi-Fi 7 migration. Share the proposed platform and the client groups that matter to your operation. We will agree a realistic test scope and produce evidence that helps you decide whether to proceed, adjust the design or resolve a specific endpoint dependency before wider deployment.
