ThousandEyes WAN Assurance
Use ThousandEyes measurements to assess Cisco or Meraki WAN performance, investigate path changes and support evidence-based provider escalation.

Average
response time
Average response is not a resolution time or a contractual guarantee. Support scope and response commitments are agreed for each engagement.
ThousandEyes WAN assurance measures paths from chosen locations to help explain loss, delay and route changes. We plan tests around the apps your sites use. Results are compared with device and provider data during an investigation. Each test has a defined view, so a single path diagram is not treated as the complete cause of a fault.
Useful visibility
Monitor service-relevant conditions rather than collecting alerts without ownership.
Controlled change
Keep maintenance, automation and configuration work reviewable and recoverable.
Clear escalation
Connect incidents to the right engineering, provider and business contacts.
Define the paths and service questions
We find the branches, data centres, cloud destinations and important apps included in the assessment. The need may concern a recurring outage, an SD-WAN policy decision or a comparison between provider paths. Each test is tied to a question that the operating team can act on.
We also distinguish private WAN paths from internet access. Their visibility, routing control and provider commitments differ. A test design should state which path is expected and what evidence is needed when the actual route changes, rather than assuming that all connections can be assessed with identical targets and thresholds.

Place agents to represent the connection
A vantage point needs to sit where it can observe the relevant route. We check agent location, source addressing and the effects of firewalls, proxies or local breakout. An agent on a management network may not follow the same policy as ordinary app traffic, making its result useful for a different question than the customer intended.
Supported embedded Cisco or Meraki agents can simplify rollout in suitable setups, but their eligibility and test capabilities are checked. Where another hosting form is needed, we document the extra dependency rather than claiming that every branch appliance can provide the same measurement service.
A useful starting point
Tell us what is happening.
A short description of the problem is enough for an initial discussion.
Select tests and intervals deliberately
Network and application-layer tests can complement one another. We choose the measurements needed to distinguish path degradation from a service problem beyond the network. Test frequency is balanced against sensitivity, platform support and entitlement consumption, with limitations recorded for short events that may occur between samples.
Targets also need care. An unresponsive destination or a service that treats synthetic traffic differently can create misleading results. We agree appropriate test endpoints and examine whether security policies or rate limiting affect the observations before interpreting them as ordinary user experience.
Different environments. The same care.

Office network design ↗Data centres & cloud
Network boundaries, workload connections and operational ownership.
Data centre networks ↗Correlate path evidence with local telemetry
Cisco interface counters, routing state, Meraki uplink information and carrier records can help explain a ThousandEyes result. We align timestamps and identify whether congestion, errors or a path change coincide with the reported problem. No single source is treated as infallible evidence of fault ownership.
Intermediate-hop responses require cautious interpretation. A router may limit or deprioritise diagnostic replies while forwarding app traffic normally. We focus on the relevant end-to-end measurements and corroborating evidence before claiming that one displayed hop is responsible for packet loss.
Validate SD-WAN and failover assumptions
Where the network uses policy-based path choice, we establish which traffic the test represents and whether it follows the intended app policy. A successful probe over one path does not prove that every user flow moved to it. We compare the monitoring result with the actual forwarding and policy state.
Controlled failure tests can measure recovery and the performance of surviving connections where the customer authorises them. Restoration is observed and failure. The record states which scenarios were exercised and avoids presenting a healthy redundant topology as proof of uninterrupted app service.
Prepare useful provider escalations
An evidence pack identifies affected locations, destinations, times, measurements and the relevant local checks. It distinguishes observations from hypotheses so the provider can investigate efficiently. A screenshot without context is less useful than a clear description of the behaviour and the tests already completed.
The customer’s contract with the provider still governs repair obligations. ThousandEyes evidence can strengthen an escalation. But it does not itself establish a contractual breach or guarantee a particular response. We keep technical findings separate from commercial conclusions that require the applicable agreement and wider records.
Turn assurance into ongoing improvement
Reviews can identify recurring poor paths, capacity pressure or policy choices that warrant change. Proposed corrections have a defined aim and post-change test, allowing the customer to see whether the service actually improved. Monitoring remains useful only while its agents, targets and assumptions stay current.
MCI can deliver WAN assurance within Cisco ThousandEyes operations or a focused network investigation. The scope connects measurements to engineering decisions and provider coordination, giving your team better evidence without overstating visibility into every part of an external network or every app session.
